Ngā Pitopito kōrero mai i te Kaunihera o Kāpiti

Kia ora Kāpiti

Get out and enjoy the summer sun by visiting our beaches, pools, walkways and public spaces.  This edition is packed with events, work updates and reminders on how we can share our public spaces together.

Our home, Our Kāpiti - Horses on the beach

Meet Sam and Poppy who recently let us tag along for a frolic on the beach while discussing some tips for how riders and other beach users can safely and respectfully share our public spaces together.

For more information about when and where you can ride horses on the beach, visit our website.   🖤 #ourhomeourkapiti

Recycling station at Maclean Park

The new public place recycling station installed at Maclean Park in Paraparaumu this week is part of the Litter Less, Recycle More project and has been installed for a 12-month trial.

The bin will make it easier for people to recycle while out and about and help reduce the waste going to landfill.  The trial will assess both the cost of expanding the initiative to other areas of Kāpiti and whether the station is used correctly - it’s really important that only the accepted items go into the bins, and that all recyclables are clean.

Speed signs

With the busy season for travelling around the district well and truly here, we want you to stay safe on the roads this summer.

To help keep speeds sensible we have rolled out three brand new speed feedback signs in Kāpiti.   These will rotate around the district and help provide useful data and information.  Take care and remember to stay cool and calm out there!

Resurfacing roads

Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe, we operate a continuous programme of road maintenance and upgrades on all our local roads, our website lists all planned upcoming chip seal resurfacing

We know roadworks can be inconvenient and frustrating so we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.  Traffic management plans are put in place to help minimise disruption to your travel plans.  Please drive carefully through work sites and stick to the temporary speed limits.

Is it safe to swim?

Summer is a great time to enjoy our coast and waterways, but there are some times and places where caution is needed.  Go to Land, Air, Water Aotearoa (LAWA) to check the suitability for swimming today, and to get the latest alerts.  Remember that dogs are at greatest risk from toxic algae because they love the smell of it and will eat it if they can. The best thing you can do to keep yourself and your pooch safe is to keep dogs on leash and avoid swimming.
