UPDATE
Dear Friends of City Roots CLT,

We can't wait to see you at our Annual Meeting, this Thursday, 1/30 from 6-8pm at 441 Parsells Avenue. This has been a huge year for the growth of our community land trust! Many of you remember the early days of our weekly meetings at the Freedom Market, St. Joe's, and The Flying Squirrel - educating ourselves and each other about bylaws, resale formulas, and grant writing; working through our mission and vision statement; doing group-style presentations to organizations all throughout Rochester. Flash forward to today and we have our own office space, we've rehabbed our first house, we've helped support a homeowner win her battle against foreclosure, we've established the Peace Village homeless encampment, we've expanded our membership and partnerships, we've secured numerous grants, and we've added staff. We did all of this and more by working TOGETHER around a simple, but powerful concept: Permanent Affordability; Community Control; Development without Displacement.

2020 is going to be our best year yet!

We'll see you Thursday for our Annual Meeting,1/30 from 6-8pm at 441 Parsells Avenue.

Our New Office
City Roots CLT has a new office located in The Hungerford (1115 E. Main St., Door #7)!

We're sharing space with our friends at Metro Justice, which gives us access to the conference room and a larger gathering room. It's also wheelchair accessible.

We currently have Joe Di Fiore on staff as our part-time Executive Director as well as a full-time Americorps member who'll be starting tomorrow (he'll be at the Annual Meeting). We plan to have a full-time E.D. hired by the end of February, and we'll be bringing on two other staff members in the months to follow!

All Moved In
We're beyond thrilled to announce that the Primus family moved into our newly rehabbed CLT house earlier this month! HUGE thanks to all of you for coming out and volunteering your time to make this possible. Thanks as well to all of our independent contractors! If you're in need of any work on your own home and are looking for recommendations, let us know!

We'll be looking to do one last volunteer day in a couple months (sort of a Spring Cleaning Day), and Andre and Mabel are hoping to do a housewarming gathering as part of an official ribbon cutting this spring.

We had a whole bunch of applications come in for this house and wish we could've gotten each and every family into an affordable home. The good news is, we'll be doing at least 4 more houses this year!
Get Involved
We wouldn't be a grassroots, community-driven organization without all the participation from our active members. City Roots CLT has four standing committees that anyone can join:

Finance (& Fundraising): It's a great feeling to know that a grant application you helped right was accepted! The Finance committee puts together City Roots' budget for board approval. In addition to grant writing, the Fundraising sub-committee solicits donations from area businesses and organizes fundraisers. No previous experience needed. We can even provide training and templates.

Outreach (& Communications): Are you a "people person"? A great public speaker? Are these skills you want to develop? This committee gives presentations on the City Roots and the CLT model and also organizes our CLT 101 & 102 events.  We prepare by doing mock presentations and we can provide additional training for those who really want to up their public speaking skills.

Communications: Maybe you're a little more on the introverted side, but still want to help get the word out.  If you're all about Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, and beyond, this could be the role for you.  This is a sub-committee of our Outreach team and is all about social media communication, e-newsletters (mailchimp), phone calls, texts, and even the classic snail mail.

Policy & Governance: If the phrase "policy wonk" means anything to you, you're more than qualified to be on this committee. Researching best practices, recommending policies to the board, and working on important documents like our ground lease and bylaws are what these folks do.

Technology: From WordPress to Javascript, this committee does the back end of our website, email, server, and donations, as well as generally handling all things technology.

Find out more at our Annual Meeting, this Thursday, 1/30 from 6-8pm at 441 Parsells Avenue.

Please mark your calendar for February 7th, 7pm at 141 Adams Street! There will be a "mass meeting" with Rev. Dr. William J. Barber and Rev. Dr. Liz Theroharis as part of the Poor People's Campaign's National Call for a Moral Revival. The meeting is being co-hosted by Rev. Dr. Rickey B. Harvey and Rev. Dr. Jonathan McReynolds
