🚆 The ‘u’ that could save Sound Transit $4M

What Seattle is talking about

The people have spoken, and the top name choice for the light rail station currently known as University Street is (drumroll) … Symphony Station. 🎶

As you may recall, the need for a new name came about due to confusion between the University Street and University of Washington stations.

There’s just one problem. Sound Transit officials estimate that updating all the signage, dispatching software, and emergency tags will end up costing $5.3 million.

So they’ve proposed a solution: Make the official name Union Street/Symphony Station, which would keep its operating code (“USS”) the same and save the agency around $4 million.

Some people are officially. not. impressed. But most officials seem to dig the name. Sound Transit’s board of directors is set to vote on it Thursday.

Monday spotlight: Meet Brianna Milot

Thank you for supporting The Evergrey! Today we’re continuing our series on the people who make what we do possible — our lovely members. ❤️ Next up, from Belltown, is Brianna Milot

What made you decide to become a member of The Evergrey?

When I moved to Seattle I didn’t know anyone, and I wanted to find more ways I could get involved and meet new people.

What’s something you’re working on — in big ways or small — that others could help with?

I used to be a part of a hiking with dogs Meetup group where I used to live, and was hoping to find something like that here. I have a very sweet mini Aussie that would love some hiking buddies!

What local business do you think deserves a shoutout (and why)?

I really love to shop at Scoop Marketplace! It’s a small package-free shop in Capitol Hill that has food and other reusable products.

If Seattle had _______, you’d feel complete.

A plant shop/bookstore/cafe all in one

Hands-down, your favorite restaurant in town?

Does Frankie and Jo’s count? I love their ice cream. (Editor’s note: Yes, that totally counts.)

What are you celebrating in your life right now?

I just celebrated my fifth anniversary with my husband! 🎉
