Regional Science Fair Prep Session:
Request for Judges/Support

There will be a prep session for our students who have qualified for the Regional Science Fair.  We are in need of judges/support to critique and guide 16 students in their final preparation to compete in the Regional Science Fair.  The prep session is on Thursday, Jan. 23rd at 2:00 until 3:30 pm.  If you are able to participate in the session, please contact Dr. Frederic Bien.  You may report directly to the main office and you will be directed to the location.  Any amount of time that you can work with our students will be greatly appreciated.

Grady Cluster Data Dig
Wednesday, January 22 at noon at Hope-Hill Elementary School

Curious how schools in the Grady Cluster compare to those across town? Wondering where we excel and what needs work? Trying to understand how our student body has changed and what the future may hold?

If so, please join CINS and Atlanta Public Schools' Data and Information Group for the Grady Cluster Data Dig on Wednesday, January 22 at noon at Hope-Hill Elementary School. This event is intended for parents of current and prospective students and community stakeholders who want to know more about where our schools stand and where they're heading. Bring your questions and your friends!

Brown bag lunches are welcome; drinks will be provided. Free parking is available at the King Center lot on Irwin Street. Please allow a couple of extra minutes to sign in.

The event is FREE, but you need to register beforehand to join.  Register HERE.

Have you purchased a Grady High School  Yearbook for your son or daughter? Time is short! So don’t wait until the last minute because the price of the 2020 yearbook is going up on January 31. So don’t miss out! Order now by going to JOSTENS and follow the prompts.


 



Prom Tickets are Available for Sale Now! 
Grady’s Junior-Senior Prom 2020 will take place at the Georgia Tech Hotel on April 25, 2020. Tickets for Grady’s current Juniors and Seniors are $45 through the end of January. Prices will increase as we near prom night. Guest tickets have a flat rate of $65 and a completed guest application will be required. A guest is defined as any student that is not a current junior or senior at Grady.

DeKalb Firefighters with Master Firefighter Ziyad

Come by and meet Master Firefighter Adrienne Ziyad. She will discuss career opportunities with DeKalb County Fire Rescue, including minimum requirements and how the organization is growing. Lunch will be provided. Sign-up required by Tuesday, January 21. Email Ms. Cook (Maryska) or come by student support in the Media Center.

Scholarship Guide
It is time to start applying for scholarships!  Here is a scholarship guide that links to the APS scholarship database, lists specific scholarships for APS students, students in Georgia, popular scholarship databases, and more general scholarships. Please read through this document and APPLY! Many scholarship deadlines are quickly approaching.  Please let Ms. Poirier or Ms. Jones know if you have any questions!

Also, if you are interested in attending Georgia Perimeter and have not taken the SAT or ACT please go see Mrs. Cook in student support about taking the Accuplacer test. -  The College Advisers

 


2020 CDC Museum Disease Detective Camp


Applications now available!

The David J. Sencer CDC Museum is excited to announce the 2020 dates and application for the popular CDC Museum Disease Detective Camp! An academic summer program for rising high school juniors and seniors, camp teaches attendees the fundamentals of CDC’s work: the field of public health and the science of epidemiology. Program dates for summer 2020 are two identical 5-day sessions and four identical 2-day sessions. 5-day sessions: June 15-19 & July 20-24; 2-day sessions: June 22-23June 25-26July 6-7, & July 9-10. All camp days are 8:45a.m. – 4:00p.m. All applicants must be 16 by first day of camp.

The application process for the 2020 camps is now open through March 27, 2020. To apply, click here to read the Camp FAQ and download the application. Please direct all questions the FAQ do not answer to camp@cdc.gov. Camp staff encourages students to apply and inquire about camp on their own. Volunteer Opportunities

Community Service Hours
Community service hours are managed and stored in a platform called MobileServe. Students can log their hours HERE

They can download the app to their smartphones too. Once their accounts are created, 9th graders should select GP2023 for their organization. This ensures that their accounts are attached to Grady High School.

 



Morningside Elementary Needs Tutors
Need community service hours. Morningside Elementary is still recruiting tutors for their Saturday program. Anyone interested please reply to this email by providing me with your full name and the Saturday you'd like to volunteer.
