Call for Proposals for 2020-21 ISCE Scholars Program
ISCE is accepting applications for its 2020-21 Scholars Program. This signature program provides faculty support for developing grant proposals in the social sciences, broadly defined, and consistent with ISCE’s four thematic areas and the University’s Transdisciplinary Communities. Proposed projects are expected to address critical individual and social concerns impacting the lives of people and places locally, nationally, or across the globe.The Scholars Program supports faculty to undertake work in a new or existing area, with the expectation that proposals developed through the program lead to external funding. Call for Letters of Intent for Early Childhood Grants
The Caplan Foundation supports development projects and promising research with the potential to significantly enhance the physical and mental health, safety, nutrition, play, social integration, and/or quality of life of children from birth through seven years of age. Letters of Intent are invited in the following categories: early child welfare; early childhood education and play; and parenting education. Click here for details.

Funding for Health Behavior Pilot/Feasibility Studies Available
In a partnership with the Carilion Clinic’s Research Acceleration Program (RAP), the VT College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, the office of the VT VP of Health Sciences and Technology, and the Center for Transformative Health Behaviors, at least 3 health behavior pilot/feasibility studies will be funded for up to $20,000/year. Funding is intended to support collaborative proposals from full-time VT faculty members and Carilion Clinic health practitioners. Click here for details.

Funding Opportunity for Health Outcomes Research
PhRMA Foundation welcomes applications for its Pharmacoeconomics, Real World Data and Health Outcomes Program, which supports a broad spectrum of issues related to healthcare delivery. Grants of up to $100,000 will be awarded in support of individuals beginning an independent research career in health outcomes in 3 areas: 1) Pharmoeconomics; 2) Clinical Outcomes Assessment; and 3) Patient-Level Real-World Data and Analytic Tools. Call for Proposals for Alzheimer's Related Research
The Commonwealth of Virginia Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Research Award Fund (ARDRAF) is requesting proposals for studies from Virginia universities and research organizations related to Alzheimer's disease, policies, programs and financing or social and psychological impacts. Call for Disability Employment Pilot Projects
The Kessler Foundation invites applications for its Signature Employment Grants program that offers up to $250,000/year for up to two years in support of pilot initiatives or demonstration projects that develop models to increase employment for individuals with disabilities. The foundation has a special interest in projects that address the intersection of race, class, gender, disability, and poverty. Click here for details.

RWJF Leadership Programs
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has announced new deadlines for several of its leadership programs.
  • Culture of Health Leaders - This program is for people working in every field and profession who want to use their influence to advance health and equity. Leaders represent fields as diverse as business, technology, architecture, education, urban farming, the arts and many others. Click here for details. Deadline: February 19, 2020
     
  • Interdisciplinary Research Leaders - This program is for teams of researchers and community partners and allows them to use the power of applied research to accelerate that work and advance health and equity. Human Centered Communities Call for Proposals
The Intelligent Infrastructure and Human Centered Communities (IIHCC) Destination Area has issued a call for proposals for projects that involve human-centered communities, plus one or more of their thematic areas. Preference will be given to projects led by a IIHCC cluster hire as a PI or who has a significant role on the project, and to those projects that include PIs from two or more colleges. Three types of grants are available: Open calls for $50,000 and $25,000, and a call for projects in age-centered environments for up to $25,000. Click here for details.

Submit Your Idea for the NAM Healthy Longevity Catalyst Award!
The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) is accepting applications for its Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards. Individuals and teams are invited to submit 2-page applications detailing bold, innovative, and potentially transformative ideas to improve the mental, physical, and social well-being of people as they age. The competition is open to innovators from all backgrounds, and ideas may focus on any stage of life, as long as they ultimately promote health as people age. Click here details.

NIA Request for Proposals for Stress-Related Projects
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Stress Measurement Network at UCSF, in collaboration with Gateway to Global Aging Data, has completed the harmonization of psychosocial stress variables across nine longitudinal studies on aging from around the world. With this completion, there is an opportunity for early stage investigators to develop projects with these datasets and receive mentorship from senior faculty and a $2,500 honorarium. Faculty Fellows Program to Support Transdisciplinary Courses
The Virginia Tech Transdisciplinary Faculty Fellows Program is designed to help facilitate the creation and teaching of transdisciplinary courses, many of which are connected to the Destination Area (DA) initiative. The program is intended to provide support to faculty who want to teach outside of their home department and/or faculty who want to engage in design and implementation of transdisciplinary courses that require innovative models of faculty collaboration. Call for Proposals for Gifted Children and Youth Research
The American Psychological Foundation welcomes applications for its Esther Katz Rosen Fund Grants, which range from $1,000 and $50,000, and will be awarded in support of research, pilot projects, and research-based programs related to the psychological understanding of gifted children and youth. Applications Invited for Scholarly European Art Projects
The Samuel H. Kress Foundation is accepting proposals for scholarly projects that will enhance the appreciation and understanding of European art and architecture. Grants will be awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, the development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, museum exhibitions and publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogs and publications, and technical and scientific studies. Strategic Prevention Framework - Partnerships for Success Grants
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Center for Substance Abuse Prevention is accepting applications for 2020 Strategic Prevention Framework - Partnerships for Success grants. The purpose of this program is to prevent the onset and reduce the progression of substance abuse and its related problems while strengthening prevention capacity and infrastructure at the community and state level. Call for Proposals for Biodiversity Data, Information Services in Africa
The JRS Biodiversity Foundation has issued a RFP for multiyear projects of up to $250,000 focused on biodiversity data, knowledge, and information services related to freshwater biodiversity, pollinator biodiversity, and biodiversity informatics capacity development. NSF Head of SBE Directorate to Present on February 13th
Dr. Arthur Lupia, Head of the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate, and Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation, will present The Value of Science in a Polarized Age, on Thursday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m., in person in Arlington in the East/West Falls Church Room on 900 N. Glebe Rd., and via a simultaneous broadcast to Blacksburg, location TBA. Remote access through Zoom will also be available.

Upcoming NSF New Biosketch Requirement
The National Science Foundation (NSF) has designated the National Institutes of Health’s SciENcv as an NSF-approved format for its biosketches. Beginning with the revised version of the Proposal & Award Policies & Procedures Guide (PAPPG), anticipated to be released in January 2020, NSF will only accept biosketches generated through an NSF-approved format. COSSA Brief on Foreign Interference in US Research
The Consortium of Social Science Associations has released a brief entitled, Foreign Interference in the U.S. Research Enterprise & Policy Responses, which addresses the recent hot topic of foreign influence on U.S. research with considerations for those in the social and behavioral science community.
