"Militarizing the Belt and Road" with Matthew Johnson

Matthew Johnson, the founder and principal of AltaSilva LLC and an associate fellow of the Global Diplomatic Forum based in London, will give a lecture on Xi Jinping's One Belt, One Road initiative spanning throughout and outside of mainland China. Johnson will focus specifically the cultivation of military and security partnerships, the privatization of security, and the extension of the security concept into non-traditional domains through the examination of case studies. EXPLORING THE ASIAN DIASPORA: "NAILED IT!"
For our Exploring the Asian Diaspora series, we will be screening “Nailed It!”,  a documentary about the $8 billion American nail salon industry built by millions of Vietnamese immigrants. Afterwards, there will be a panel discussion featuring Vietnamese community members and a K-14 educator workshop on how to utilize digital storymapping. Please join us on Saturday, February 1st from 8:30 AM to noon in 4130 Posvar Hall. Act 48s, parking vouchers, and breakfast will be provided. KOREAN LANGUAGE SOCIAL HOUR
The English Language Institute (ELI) is pleased to host 10 teachers from the Korea National University of Education and six Korean ELI students this semester. To welcome this new cohort, the Asian Studies Center will host a second Korean Language Social Hour. This will serve as a perfect opportunity to both learn Korean from native Korean speakers and teach English to international students. There will be snacks and drinks at this event, too. Please join us on Tuesday, February 11th from 4 PM to 5 PM in the Global Hub.

UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH CONFERENCE SIGN-UP
Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) will host the 8th annual Pittsburgh Asia Consortium (PAC) Undergraduate Research Conference on Saturday, February 29th. Papers and presentations may concentrate on any region of Asia, including the Middle East. Each participant must also have a faculty sponsor, who is not required to attend the conference. We are looking for paper submissions, which are due by Saturday, February 1st. Registration is free. Students may learn more and register here.

HINO MOTORS MANUFACTURING JOB OPPORTUNITY IN WEST VIRGINIA
Hino Motors Manufacturing in West Virginia is looking to hire a Production Control Specialist. This position will require the Production Control Specialist to manage and handle inventory, improve scheduling processes, and help the company ensure it meets delivery deadlines while maintaining fair costs. The position must be held by someone fluent in Japanese (or a native Japanese speaker). Applicants must hold a bachelor degree in production planning or a related field and at least five years of experience in production planning and prior work experience with a Japanese company is preferred.
