Room to Heal Through Art

Room to Be Safe is launching an ongoing, innovative, & free event series for the LGBTQ community on the fourth Thursday of every month at the Appleton office (408 ½ West Wisconsin Ave, Appleton) called Room to Heal Through Art, in partnership with the Refuge Foundation for the Arts.  The first three events (Jan. 23, Feb. 27, & Mar. 26) will be hosted by Nicholas Raymond and Ciara Noelle Grace where you will experience live music while practicing yoga & meditation that meets you where you’re at.  No yoga experience is required / beginner friendly; water, mats, and blocks will be provided.  RSVP by texting / calling (920) 840-2040 or email Nick at nross@diverseandresilient.org.

Free Chrystul Kizer

D&R staff were in Kenosha to stand with Chrystul Kizer, a teen who has been criminalized as a victim of sex trafficking.  Read more about the case here.  D&R stands with Chrystul.

Take a peak at the newly-released workshop lineup for the 2020 Wisconsin LGBTQ Summit taking place on March 28 here!  Ticket registration is now available here and registering early really helps us out.  General Registration is $75 and Student / Limited Income Registration (no questions asked!) is $25.  Sponsorships are also available.

December YDS Retreat

D&R recently led a two-day training of Youth Development Specialists (YDS) from around the state!  Staff who work with LGBTQ youth from Vivent Health (ARCW), the LGBT Center of SE Wisconsin (Racine), Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin's LGBT Partnership, Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, Pathfinders, and YouthGo (Neenah) gathered together for community, training, and collaboration.  We are passionate about these retreats because supporting LGBTQ youth is everyone's responsibility!

I AM Appreciation Dinner

After another great Get Down event with the I AM program, the I AM core group came together for an appreciation dinner at Brownstone Social Lounge.  Thank you to all 14 of our core group members and congrats on a great year!  Together they will make 2020 a better reality for us all and the community we serve!

S.I.P. Panel & Teen Lock-in

Harm Reduction Program Coordinator Anthony Harris & D&R Board Member Elle Halo participated in Safe & Sound and Neighborhood House of Milwaukee’s S.I.P. Panel & Teen Lock-in for Drug & Alcohol Prevention in December along with many other community partners.  The event provided a safe space for youth to discuss the effects of alcohol on the brain, teen stressors, coping skills, and how to reduce risks if using alcohol.  Substance use prevention among LGBTQ youth is important work that D&R continues to address!
