Pushing Boundaries:
An Endurance Coaching Journal for Time-Crunched Professionals

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." -Jim Ryun, Olympian

I've been thinking a lot about how training fits into daily planning, schedules, and to-do lists. Specifically, why is training consistency a given for some people, and it falls off the rails for others?

The answer is HABITS. This past week, I got in touch with my inner psychologist (I always thought this would be a fun profession, btw) to write this week's article about habit formation because, as the Jim Ryun quote above states, it is HABITS that lead to life-long changes.

I would love to hear more examples of how you choose specific actions, and how these actions have created a good habit in your life. Please email me with your stories!

Keep Your Training On Point With This One Habit

Endurance athletes often start training plans that are too ambitious to sustain due to the behavior modifications that the training requires. Learn how to trick your brain to form new habits, instead of worrying about behavior-change, in order to execute your training in auto-pilot mode.
What I'm Reading

At the Outspoken Summit in 2018, I met a triathlete from Anchorage, Alaska and was totally impressed with her dedication to a fair-weather sport in an unsuitable location. This article caught my attention, as this triathlete has Anchorage beat by 551 miles!

Here's another story of a busy executive who manages triathlon training amidst his job and life. I'm always amazed by how every person on this planet uses 24 hours in a day.
