Equipped to Take the Next Step

Mikala Leon

Hi, I’m Mikala, and if I had to tell you about myself, I’d probably start with wife to Silvano and mother of three: Kiahna, Lennox, and Beckham. However, you probably know me as part of the hospitality team. And that’s why I received the invitation to participate in the pilot of Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. My interest was piqued immediately because emotions are something I’ve never been great at and I was in the midst of a spiritual valley.

Since getting married and having more children, I have struggled to find time for the things I once was committed to. Things like reading my Bible and praying. Somewhere along the way I had started using Romans 8:26-27 as a free pass. (In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.) While Spirit does intercede for us, I knew I wasn’t making time to be with God like I used to.

I had hit a wall. Only I didn’t have the words to name it and I didn’t have a clue how to move beyond it. That’s what Emotionally Healthy Spirituality did for me. It helped me recognize where I was at with God and how to take the next step to move past the wall into a deeper relationship with Him. This course took me on a journey through my past and challenged me to reflect on how circumstances and people shaped me. It gave me the opportunity to consider how all my 39 years of experiences manifests in my thoughts, words, and actions. It also equipped me with easy, practical tools for moving from emotionally healthy infancy to emotionally healthy adulthood. For all of these reasons, I would highly recommend the EHS course to anyone, regardless of where they are at on their spiritual journey.

M&Ms for Missions!
First Kids are filling up their M&M containers with quarters for missions. They are supporting Krishnaveni, one of the orphans at Our Father's House in India. This is the orphanage that Luke and Kas Raju have built to house little girls.

For the next month, they are collecting quarters to bring back in. And, yes, they got to eat the candy before filling up the tubes! Pictured here are Drew Farmer and Austin Salinas. They have already achieved the challenge of collecting the quarters. Good job, boys!
