The Ontario government gave notice in 2018 that the proclamation of the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act (ONCA) would occur “early 2020”. However, on December 31, 2019, the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services informed us and updated their website that ONCA will not be proclaimed in early 2020.

Community Events

After 13 years at HALCO (and almost 40 years since her first involvement with legal clinics), Jill McNall, community legal worker extraordinaire, will be retiring. Jill’s impact on countless people in the HIV and legal clinic communities (and beyond) is incredibly profound. Her skills, dedication, dependability and thoughtfulness are matched only by her kindness. Jill is the definition of a mensch. Among many things, we will miss her keen attention to detail as well as fantastic ability to effectively use plain language to convey complex legal issues. While it is incredibly difficult to imagine HALCO and the clinic system without Jill, and while we will miss her something terrible, we could not be happier for her as she heads into retirement.

To read a message from Jill, please see page 18 of HALCO’s recent newsletter.

Please join us in celebrating Jill’s contribution to justice in Ontario. The party commences at 5.30pm on Thursday, January 23 at the Duke of Cornwall (400 University Ave. #100, Toronto, Ontario M5G 1S5).
