Bishop's Blog -  Parousia: God’s Invitation to a Church in Resurrection, Part III: Excerpt: Beloved, Parousia isn’t about changing the fundamental vision of God’s Church on the eastern shore, rather it’s about employing and engaging what the Church has been accustomed to and promoted over the centuries and giving them new life, renewed energy, specific focus, robust intentionality, redefined purpose and a redemptive quality that make them sing the same old song with a different melody and rhythm more conversant to the times we live in. Presiding Bishop encourages support for One Thousand Days of Love by observing Episcopal Relief & Development Sunday on March 1  “Lent is a time of reflection and of following Jesus, demonstrating his love for the world,” said Presiding Bishop Curry. “I invite all congregations to devote a Sunday in Lent to reflect on the transformational work of Episcopal Relief & Development, particularly their work with children, and to tangibly demonstrate God’s love by giving generously to support ONE THOUSAND DAYS OF LOVE.”  At the 2009 General Convention, Lent was officially designated as a time for dioceses, congregations and individuals to remember and support the work of Episcopal Relief & Development. Although the first Sunday in Lent is the official day of observance, churches may hold a special service on any Sunday.  Read more here.

Bishop's Spotlight:

Bishop San enjoyed his visit last week with St. John's Chapel in Cornersville.  He received two new members into the Episcopal Family and reaffirmed one other.  Bishop San presided over the annual general meeting of the chapel.  He was inspired to witness the amount of mission and ministry work done by the parish.  There are visible signs of membership growth and he was excited to commend the members and thank the Vicar, The Reverend Canon Dr.  Daniel Dunlap for his ministry in the parish and the diocese.   This past Sunday, the Bishop attended services at Old Trinity Parish, Church Creek and received 4 adults and two children into the Episcopal Church.  The Bishop expressed his gratitude to the Rector, The Reverend Canon Dr.  Daniel Dunlap and lay leadership for their faithful ministry.  The parish continues to reach out in a meaningful way to the neighboring community of Church Creek.
The Bishop will be in Alabama next week to preach and celebrate the life and work of Absalom Jones on Saturday, February 15th at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Birmingham.  The Union of Black Episcopalians celebrates annually the life of Absalom Jones who was the first African-American abolitionist and clergyman in the Episcopal Church.  Bishop San was instrumental in starting the Alabama chapter of The Union of Black Episcopalians.  Read more here about the life of Absalom Jones.  Read more here about The Union of Black Episcopalians.  While in Alabama, he will also attend his annual private retreat and meet with his spiritual advisor.
