TRENDING
At the recent OSI conference in Whistler I presented information to the Optometrists on What's Trending in Building Optometry Offices.  This information was no different from what I would tell you in any New Builds or Renovations...whether you're a Retailer, A Corporate Office or an Optometry Clinic.   I'm goIng to share some of those PowerPoint slides.
TRENDING - BACK TO NATURE

Whether we're looking at 'green living walls', carpets like the one below, or wallpaper and murals...this trend is still going strong.

This carpet by Moooi called 'The Menagerie of Extinct Animals'  invites you to look closely and discover a lush and richly illustrated world
brimming with life.
This living wall is in the headquarters of 'DIRTT' in Calgary.
A mural of blowing grasses is being installed in a 'tub room' at a
health care facility that I've been working on.
I grabbed this image from a recent AZURE magazine. This incredible slab by @antolini is so beautiful. Unique cuts of petrified wood are crafted into tiles of stone and laid into a modern presentation. Then under intense heat, pressure, grit, and earth it is then cleaned and ushered into their Precioustone collection called Geo Fancy Light Petrified Wood.

You don't have to go to Italy to purchase this...Antolini's stone slabs can be purchased locally at Aeon Stone & Tile.

In my books it's the real deal and not a lot different than the colours and textures of barnwood, which we've been seeing for some time now.

Solid rounds of upcycled and salvaged BC's  Spruce and Pine. - definitely a 'must have' natural accessory piece.

I've been renovating part of my home, and I am waiting for these to come back into stock so that I can use them as side tables in a bedroom.

It goes without saying that the pieces I show in this blog can easily work in residential or commercial applications.
Imagine these as side tables in your waiting room, as Seating for your dressing rooms or as risers in your window displays.

Where do you think this Industrial Office spaces fits in?
Modern Industrial? Back to Nature? or both?
TRENDING - MODERN BOHEMIAN INDUSTRIAL

Think of a warehouse. Think of worn-out wood flooring, brick walls, and metal bars exposed at the ceiling.

Now, think of converting that into an office, or a home.

Think of mixing raw edged wood with luxurious fabrics, steel and elegant industrial lighting fixtures.
Think of mixing barns and warehouse conversions.
Think eclectic!
Think of combining modern design with age-old materials
There's a certain 'coolness' to this!

OLD SCHOOL LUXURY MEETS RAW ELEMENTS!
Sumptuous Sectional Sofa by Cassina Italy.
Quoting Euroluce: "In terms of lighting, everything is taller, bigger and more attractive in Company structures, functional and artistic objects."   I see over-sized chandeliers everywhere in design right now.
This chandelier by Foscarini called 'Sun - Light Of Love' has a sculptural presence with strong impact:

Sensual and Functional! and once again,
appropriate for Commercial, Retail and Residential!
This 'Free People' store certainly ticks a lot of boxes for
what's happening in retail design right now.
TRENDING - FLORALS
These could fit equally well into BOHO Industrial but I'm going to list them separately as an important trend.

These Dark, moody floral patterns, reminiscent of Dutch master painters, started to make an appearance a couple of years ago during fashion week. In the past few years we've seen so many floral print dresses.  Everyone is wearing them.

These aren’t the stuffy and frumpy floral armchairs of the 80s.
Instead, this look is 100% contemporary.
They would be perfect in Womens fashion stores and showrooms.
Perfect for dressing room stools, or as large floral window backdrops.
I love this look!

Visual Merchandiser

or Interior Decorator?

Too many times interior decorators think they are Visual Merchandisers. They are not. But it matters little what you or I think. In interior decorating, it’s just a matter of taste. In visual merchandising, you have to report to a higher authority — the ringing of the register. Did you increase sales or just increase aesthetic?

This will be the topic of my next post, and you won't want to miss it!
Until then.....
Thank you so much for reading my posts, and as always, I love your feedback.
