Public Comment Now Open on YHDP Draft Plan

Baltimore City's Youth Homelessness Demonstration Program (YHDP) Planning Committee invites public feedback on the draft of the Coordinated Community Plan to tackle the issue of homelessness among unaccompanied youth and young adults in Baltimore City. Members of the public are encouraged to submit feedback and comments from February 25, 2020 - March 10, 2020.
Please submit all comments by email to journey.home@baltimorecity.gov.

The Mayor's Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) is inviting nonprofit service providers and change makers to learn about Baltimore City's vision for addressing homelessness and upcoming funding opportunities.
REGISTER TODAY and join us on Monday, March 16th at 9:00 am for a Homeless Services Provider Fair. Participants will learn more about the following:
- Baltimore City's Action Plan and its specific goals to prevent and end homelessness
- MOHS' vision for change in Baltimore City
- Upcoming funding opportunities and application processes
- Opportunities to collaborate
- Efforts to prevent and end homelessness among youth and young adults
*Organizations that are not currently providing homeless services but are interested in joining the movement are strongly encouraged to participate.

Continuum of Care (CoC) 2020 Meetings Dates
|

Please mark your calendar for this year's Continuum of Care (CoC) meetings. The next CoC meeting is scheduled for March 12th from 2pm to 4pm and the agenda is available here.
Meetings are scheduled quarterly on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Additional 2020 meeting dates are listed below:
June 11th: 2pm-4pm
September 10th: 2pm-4pm
December 10th: 2pm-4pm
Location: All meetings will be held at Our Daily Bread Employment Center, located at 725 Fallsway, Baltimore, MD 21202. Here are the directions.

Members of the Continuum of Care are strongly encouraged to join the committees to help oversee the implementation of the Action Plan. Action Committees began launching in January to oversee efforts on each of the five key strategies of the Action Plan on Homelessness. More information about the Action Committees is available here.

Census 2020: What You Need to Know
|
|
The 2020 Census will be conducted in April.
- The Census is important: For every person not counted, Baltimore City loses over $18,000 per person in Federal funding over a span of 10 years. That means every person left out of the Census will reduce Baltimore’s fair share of Federal funds for essential essential programs that cover health care, education, housing, economic development and transportation.
- The Census is easy: It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete the survey, which is available online, by mail, or by phone. Invitation to participate will be mailed to every resident on or between March 12-20.
- The Census is safe: Information shared remain confidential. The US Census Bureau cannot share these information with anyone. This includes ICE, DHS, FBI, Landlords, and Public Housing Officials.

#YouthReachMD and the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services (MOHS) are gearing up for a Youth Count between March 23rd and April 5th. The Count will provide a snapshot of how many Baltimore City's youth and young adults are in need of safe and reliable housing. It will also inform the city's efforts on youth homelessness. More information about the count will be provided soon.

Harm Reduction For Homeless Service Providers
|
|
Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has partnered with Behavioral Health Systems Baltimore's Harm Reduction Training Institute to offer Harm Reduction training to homeless services provider staff in locations across the state.
This 3-hour workshop will explore frameworks for understanding motivations for and potential harms associated with drug use, underlying philosophy and principles central to a harm reduction approach, and examples of harm reduction in direct service and policy contexts.Training is offered at a first-come first served basis, and all CoC and service provider staff across the state are invited to attend. Lunch is not provided.Training dates, times, and locations are listed below:

Baltimore City's Youth Action Board

Using their own lived experience, members of Baltimore City's Youth Action Board (YAB) are working to transform our youth homeless response system. this amazing group of advocates has been on the move, championing innovative strategies to end youth homelessness and engaging local and national policymakers. This Friday, members of the YAB will lead a discussion on youth homelessness at the National Center for Homeless Education State Coordinators Annual Meeting. Way to go BmoreYAB!
Baltimore City's Youth Action Board is a diverse group of 11 youth and young adults with lived experience of homelessness committed to amplifying youth voices and infusing these voices into policy, planning, and decision making on youth homelessness.
