Hello everyone,

I would like to send you and your close friends and family our best wishes for happiness for the New Year 2020!

In this new edition, I talk about my experience during the Physiotherapy360 event, which took place in Montreal on November 9-10, 2019.

Dr. Anaïs Lacasse talks to us about her project, involving the need to have your RAMQ. I hope it will answer some of your questions and concerns regarding the RAMQ.

In addition, I am pleased to introduce you to one of our participants, who warmly agreed to tell share with us their experience with the Consortium, in the context of their low back pain.

Regarding the progress of the study, it has been a year since we started recruiting participants. I am happy to announce that more than 2000 participants have completed the first questionnaire and more than 700 of you have already completed the three and six follow-up questionnaires! Thank you so much for your trust!

I hope you spent a great holiday and that the new year brings you peace, health and happiness!

Physio360 is the annual meeting of physiotherapists of the Order of Physiotherapy of Quebec. They discuss current topics involving physiotherapy and challenges they face every day.

Being close to the patients, we had the chance to talk to them about our project! We greatly appreciate their help to increase awareness among the low back pain patient population!

Our talk was brief but well placed in the schedule. It took place early in the day, right after the award ceremony. The room was crowed and people seem very attentive, not too tired from their day.

Following an interesting talk, I stood near the exit with our flyers and posters in order to distribute them. I was happy to chat with the therapists about our project and the role they are playing for us and for the patients. I met several interesting people, whom seem very receptive and the majority concluded that they would discuss about the project with their patients and their colleagues.

I could not quantify the number of people I spoke with, nor assess the number of patients who could be referred to us, but I think the response towards the project was very good. I am quite optimistic about it! The meeting was brief, but very productive and I hope this will give the chance to other people to access the Consortium and be involved in research.

-Presentation of our researchers-

Dr. Anaïs Lacasse

The health insurance card, a wealth of information for research!

Wondering why we need your health insurance number?

Whenever we go to the hospital and use our health insurance card, consult a medical doctor or buy a prescription drug at the pharmacy, the information is listed by the government. The information is intended to ensure the proper functioning of the health system, for example, allocate budgets to hospitals, ensure the remuneration of health professionals, and offer Quebecers who don’t have private insurance, coverage for the purchase of their medications. This is the medico-administrative data! By analyzing it, you can create very useful scientific data that is representative of what's happening in real life. For example, the data allows identifying who is most at risk of going to the emergency room after a back injury in order to plan prevention, knowing who has access to a pain clinic, or studying the risks and benefits of the long-term use of drugs. Never having contact with the health system is also an interesting fact itself.

For researchers, linking this administrative data to the answers provided in the questionnaires of this project is a great opportunity for science progress. To be able to do this, however, we must have your consent and the information allowing this match (health insurance number, date of birth). This is the reason why we ask you for such personal information. If you agree to give us this information, we are able to access to your data from the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec/Institut de la statistique du Québec. To ensure confidentiality, everything is done according to very strict rules.

-Congratulations to our newest winner-

Annik, shares with us her experience

When we draw a winner for the month of November, we were pleased to learn that the lucky winner lived closed to our premises and that in addition to that, she participated in one of our satellite projects. We took this opportunity to meet her, to gather her experience and to share it with you, with her consent of course!
How did you hear about our study on low back pain?
I saw a Facebook ad. When I saw the ad, I was in great pain. I think that’s how I found it.
How about our online questionnaire?

Do you have any suggestions to improve it?

It was easy and clear. The questions were clear.
Can you tell us a little about your experience with the

affiliated project, the Biobank?
It didn’t take long to be called back. I was contacted by email and the contact with the research assistant was pretty easy. The place is easy to find and the instructions are precise and clear. Today is the second time that I come back to donate blood and saliva, for the 3-month follow up!

-AQDC Support Groups-

I would also like to remind you that the AQDC support groups begins in January 2020 and several groups are available across the province of Quebec.

Your close friends, family and yourself may be interested in sharing your experiences and advice with people with chronic pain or simply seek help. These supports groups are free and confidential. You could find information on dates and meeting places by clicking on the button below.
