The nation's opioid epidemic has reached an all-time high, with over 70,000 opioid-related deaths in the United States reported in 2018. It's a complex problem, and no one person, community, or organization has all the answers.
Here in North Central Washington, our communities are poised and ready to make a difference. In 2019, nearly 300 people joined us across the region and pledged to take action on opioids at the first ever NCW Opioid Response Conference. As we look ahead in 2020, we want to know: Can we count you in?
Please save-the-date and plan to join us for the second NCW Opioid Response Conference: Pathways to Resilience, a unique conference focused on creating local action against the opioid epidemic. Hosted Friday, May 8, at a location near you.
New this year: We're offering training and up to $10,000 to communities who want to host a site for the conference! Learn more here.
The North Central Washington Opioid Response Conference is a free conference that takes place at the same time, at multiple sites across the region!

NCACH awards $350,100 to support local health improvement efforts through Coalitions for Health Improvement

The North Central Accountable Community of Health (NCACH) Governing Board passed a motion to allocate $350,100.00 in award funding to three finalist applicants to support health and wellness initiatives across North Central Washington at their monthly board meeting held on Monday, February 3. This funding, called Coalitions for Health Improvement (CHI) Community Initiatives Funding, is made possible by NCACH under a statewide Medicaid Transformation Project.
The funded projects include:
- $125,000.00 to Chelan-Douglas Community Action Council to support a mobile food pantry and expansion of food access services in Chelan and Douglas Counties.
- $100,000.00 to Okanogan County Community Action Council to support wrap-around services and coordination for homeless and unaccompanied youth in Okanogan County.
- $125,100.00 to Grant Integrated Services to expand and enhance the work of the Grant County Suicide Prevention Taskforce across Grant County.
The three funded projects were funded through the 2019 CHI Community Initiatives community investment process. An earlier cycle of application submission and review was concluded in November 2019, and awarded $99,900.00 to five additional projects. To date, NCACH has invested $450,000 into these initiatives, with plans to support even more health improvement projects in the coming years.

NCACH says "Happy Trails" to Project Manager, Christal Eshelman. Christal joined NCACH as one of its first staff members in 2017, and has been an incredible force during her time with the organization. Christal worked with stakeholders to build a robust, multi-county Opioid Project, and is behind its most successful ventures, including the development of a Recovery Coach training program, NCACH's naloxone distribution and training program, the Opioid Response Conference, and many other initiatives under NCACH's Opioid Project.
Christal also worked hard during her tenure to establish the North Central Community Partnership for Transition Solutions, a coordinated support program for those leaving incarceration; a workforce development program; and coordinating the region's transition to integrated managed care in 2017 and 2018. She brought a keen attention to detail, a quiet strength, and ferocious tenacity to her work, something we know will aid her well in her new role as a regional assessment epidemiologist for public health.

Partner spotlight: A new mobile clinic will bring your doctor to you
|

|
KOZI Radio -- "Seeing your doctor may soon be as easy as hopping on board a mobile clinic." NCACH partner, Columbia Valley Community Health, has just launched a mobile health initiative with their state-of-the-art mobile clinic, a 47-foot travelling clinic that comes to communities who need it most. The mobile clinic is one of CVCH's newest ventures, aimed at providing primary care access to those who may not be able to access services otherwise. The clinic will post locations for drop-in appointments around the region, as well as accepting scheduled appointments. Outfitted with exam rooms, the clinic plans to regularly visit Entiat, Orondo, Rock Island, and Peshastin, with plans to expand service areas across Chelan County in the near future.
