San Diego and Riverside Events Inform Energy Startups About Two Grant Opportunties
On February 6, Cleantech San Diego and the Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN) held information sessions in San Diego and Riverside to answer questions about the upcoming CalSEED grant opportunity (applications open February 28) and to share information about other relevant programs for clean energy entrepreneurs, such as the Rocket Fund (applications due March 1) and SCEIN (applications accepted on a rolling basis).

Cleantech San Diego Members Present Microgrid Solution at Intersolar Conference
On February 4, Cleantech San Diego hosted a panel conversation at Intersolar featuring a conversation led by ENGIE Services U.S. about a turn-key microgrid solution created by ENGIE, PXiSE, and XENDEE. The session covered the design, simulation, and execution of a microgrid solution specific to a customer’s unique needs and goals including carbon dioxide emission reduction, financial returns, and resilient operations.

Chubb and Troutman Sanders Host Risk for Cleantech Entrepreneurs Roundtable
On January 30, Cleantech San Diego members Chubb and Troutman Sanders hosted an interactive roundtable discussion about risk for Cleantech San Diego members and Southern California Energy Innovation Network startup companies. Event moderators Maria Guercio and Martin Kuntz of Chubb also recently wrote an article on Building Resilient International Supply Chains that appeared in the American Clean Energy Journal. Cleantech San Diego at DistribuTECH
From January 27-29, Cleantech San Diego's Jason Anderson was in San Antonio to represent the San Diego region's cleantech and smart cities industries as part of the DistribuTECH Conference. The global summit brought together industry thought-leaders from all over the world to network and share knowledge with worldwide utilities and product and service providers.

Southern California Energy Innovation Network Update
Last month, the Southern California Energy Innovation Network (SCEIN) accepted Helicoid from Riverside County into the progarm, bringing the number of active companies to an all-time high of 29. The program also had two recent graduates, Primo Energy and CleanSpark. As of December 2019, SCEIN companies employ 248 people and have raised $46.7 million in private capital and $9.1 million in public capital since joining for a total of $55.8 million.
Also of note, Qubitekk was the first SCEIN company to be awarded a $500,000 Bird Foundation Grant to partner with an Israeli company on a breakthrough cybersecurity solution; KIGT was invited to be a plenary presenter at the Bloomberg NEF Conference in San Francisco; and Nuvve was named a Global Cleantech 100 company.

Apply to Join the San Diego Community Power Community Advisory Committee
San Diego Community Power (SDCP), the new Community Choice Energy program made up of the cities of Chula Vista, Encinitas, Imperial Beach, La Mesa, and San Diego, is taking applications for membership in its Community Advisory Committee. Applications will be accepted until 5:00 pm on February 28 and nominees will be presented for Board approval at the March 26 Board meeting. Apply

Apply for the Itron Smart City Challenge
Itron is calling on the world's leading IoT technology providers and problem solvers to develop innovative technology solutions for utilities and the communities they serve. Technology vendors will leverage Itron's open IoT platform and standards-based developer tools to build solutions. Smart City Challenge winners will receive product engineering assistance, marketing and promotional support, and the opportunity to deploy their solution in a real-world environment. The challenge categories are Transforming Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations into Grid Resources and Creating Safe and Resilient Communities. Submit your application to either of the challenges by March 31.

IGNITE | SCALE | SAN DIEGO Program Focused on Delivering Smart City Solutions
IGNITE | SCALE | SAN DIEGO is looking for motivated individuals and teams interested in applying their creativity to drive real change and impact in San Diego as part of its Smart Gigabit Communities collaboration with US Ignite, Cox, and the City of San Diego. The competition will address urban challenges in the areas of mobility/mode share for low-to-moderate income communities; chatbot integration with San Diego’s “Get It Done” platform; and citizen engagement platform for arts, culture, and creative events. Become a CivicSpark Project Partner
CivicSpark is a Governor’s Initiative AmeriCorps program dedicated to building capacity for local public agencies to address community resilience issues such as climate change, water resource management, housing, and mobility. From September 2020 to August 2021, 90 Fellows will bring energy, commitment, and drive to a range of locally-defined project throughout California. Partner applications are being accepted in waves, with the first priority deadline on February 14 and the second on April 3. Learn More
