A Night of Wellness & Celebration Honoring Susan and Dr. John Tew

On September 7, 2019, the Board of Trustees of Turner Farm hosted A Night of Wellness & Celebration Honoring Susan and Dr. John Tew and unveiled Turner Farm's newly renovated Meshewa House.

Dr. Tew has helped to foster the growth of the UC Center for Integrative Health and Wellness since its inception and both Dr. John and Susan Tew have supported the physical, artistic and spiritual health of our community for many years. The principal goal of the evening was to raise funds to establish an Endowed Chair for the Director of the UC Center for Integrative Health and Wellness (two of the Trustees of Turner Farm's Board are also on the Center's Board of Advisors - Anne Ilyinsky and Robert Edmiston).

This initiative began with a seed commitment from the UC College of Medicine requiring a three-fold match. After a year of behind-the-scenes fundraising efforts, capped off by a $1Million contribution from the Turner Farm Preservation Foundation, the goal was met, thanks to the generosity and support of our community and the 250 attendees. The evening was a great success, not only in raising over $2,180,000 to fund the Director's chair, but also in embracing and engaging hundreds of new supporters and stakeholders in the Center's mission. The Endowed Chair will be known as The Turner Farm Foundation Endowed Chair for the Director of the UC Center for Integrative Health and Wellness.

The dinner featured fresh, organic ingredients, much from Turner Farm, and entertainment included performances by the UC College Conservatory of Music, Cincinnati Ballet, Cincinnati Opera and Music Resource Center. The evening finished with remarks by Chuck Mitsui who flew in from Hawaii for the evening.

The Meshewa House was originally constructed in the 1930s by his great-grandmother and Turner Farm was developed by his mother, Bonnie Mitsui. Chuck observed how his mother embraced integrative practices to enjoy and prolong her life before cancer ended it prematurely in 2013. He ended the evening by joining Co-Chair and Turner Farm Trustee, Edmiston, in announcing the successful fundraising efforts, capped off with the $1 Million gift to fund the Chair.
