Principal's Message

Dear EGRMS Families,

The Student Council Cold Weather Clothing Drive continues this week. Students should bring new or gently used outdoor gear to their BRIDGES class to donate to In the Image. The BRIDGES class with the most points will win a breakfast party at the end of the donation drive!

Last week Thursday, the 8th grade class had an amazing opportunity to travel downtown to watch the musical Hamilton. This event was made possible by a grant from the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation and on behalf of the students and staff, I would like to thank the Foundation for their support in bringing this cultural and historical experience to life for our students. Thank you!

Sincerely,
Jeff Dykhouse
Principal

This week we are beginning our second week of NWEA-MAP testing for our 6th and 7th graders. They are testing in English Language Arts and Mathematics. Results will be available soon after testing in the student's Skyward account.

Grade 6 Robotics Mondays

The Sixth Grade Robotics Club has begun meeting Mondays from 3:15 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. downstairs at the East Grand Rapids Kent District Library. Join us to build and code missions on Mindstorms robots, then make the transition to Java coding for next year. The club is put together jointly through a partnership between the Kent District Library and East Grand Rapids Public Schools. If you have not yet filled out our interest survey, please do so. Hope to see you there!

Students are issued “Way to Go” cards for demonstrating Respect, Responsibility or Personal Best by doing the right thing!  As students receive these cards, they are placed in the container located in the Main Office. Every Friday, names are drawn and announced during the afternoon announcements.  Each student selected, has the opportunity to pick a prize from the prize basket simply as a way to say “Thanks, we appreciate and recognize you!”

This week's winners are:

Maddy Baar, 6th Grade
Joseph Norcutt, 6th Grade
Jatese Sain, 6th Grade

EGRMS Student Council

-------------------------------------------------------------------

Student Council is hosting a Cold-Weather-Clothing Drive to support In the Image. Student Council is encouraging students to donate gently used winter hats, scarves, mittens, snow pants, coats, and boots.  Students should drop items off in their BRIDGES class. A friendly competition amongst BRIDGES is in place to encourage donations. The BRIDGES class with the most donations at the end of the drive will receive a breakfast party. The drive runs from Monday, February 3rd to Friday, February 14th. Click here for more details.

Do you love your children’s teachers and want to reward them in a meaningful way this Valentine’s Day? Consider giving them Star Awards from the Foundation. Star Awards honor outstanding teachers for going above and beyond for our students. For a $20 donation to the Foundation, we’ll produce a Star Award for your favorite teacher and either present it to the teacher or give it to you to present it yourself. Best of all, your donation will go toward funding enhancement grants that enable our teachers to offer our kids educational opportunities that are second to none.

To honor a teacher quickly and easily, visit the Star awards page on our website. You can also nominate teachers for the Foundation’s annual Excellence in Teaching Awards. Nominations are due by May 1st.

The next EGR Music Booster Meeting will be February 26 at 5:30 pm in the cafe conference room.

Please visit the Music Boosters website
here.   Please view previous newsletters here.

We are looking for volunteers for 2020/2021 School Year for Music Booster Board positions.  Please consider volunteering your time for the next school year.  Please contact Anne Hooker at annej6@sbcglobal.net

Thanks for your support.
