What's New at NBO

Another year has begun and with it wonderful new possibilities. At NBO we have several things that we’re excited about. There are four new board members. I will be introducing them to you over the next several months. This month we want you to meet Amie Adelman. Amie is a Professor in the College of Visual Arts and Design at the University of North Texas in Denton. To find out more about Amie take a look below.

We are beginning work our first Strategic Plan with graduate students from the University of Missouri.

The Members In Print 2 exhibition call to entry is open!  More information is available by visiting the NBO website: Members in Print 2.  This is a wonderful opportunity to explore the theme of Patterns and Textures. The Summer Basketry+ will be devoted to Members In Print 2! This call for entry is using the CaFE system and you can search there as well for our exhibition and other calls as well. Call For Entry - Members in Print 2

Last month I came across this fascinating article about a Medieval fishing basket found buried in the Severn Estuary. This discovery was made by a group of Welsh fishermen. How exciting to see the remnants of such an ancient basket. Here’s the link to read more about it: Medieval Fishing Basket Found

There are still some places open in the trip to Japan. NBO is partnering with the Peters Valley School of Craft to bring you this exciting opportunity to visit Japan and meet many of their master crafts people in their studios. The tour will be lead by one of Japan’s top bilingual guides. More information follows below.

If you’re part of a guild or want to find out more about what’s happening in some basketry guilds, we host a Guild Bulletin Board on Facebook. There are all kinds of posts and information so be sure to visit the site and take a look: Basket Guild Bulletin Board
