Today I want to talk to you about GoodRx. If you think it’s a joke, a hoax, or a scam, you are wrong. GoodRx works and can actually help you...even if you have a health insurance plan and even if you are on Medicare! It worked for me just yesterday and I saved over $130. On one prescription!

What is GoodRx? GoodRx is a website that helps consumers search for prescription drug information and prices. GoodRx.com began in 2011 and the company helps people find coupons and up to 80% discounts for their prescribed medication. Consumers can compare prices among nearby pharmacies and print coupons to help them save money on their medication purchases. The affiliated pharmacies have contracts with many of the various insurance companies to provide discounts for those with and without insurance.

Prescription drug prices are not regulated. The cost of a prescription may differ by more than $100 between pharmacies right across the street from each other and insurance companies don’t care or help you find the best prices around.

That’s why even with my Medicare Advantage Plan, GoodRx still helped me. I went to get one of my many prescriptions and found that what I was expected to pay for a 90-day supply from my local pharmacy under my plan was going to cost me $143. That’s because my 2020 “deductible” was to be factored into my cost (my last reorder of this drug at the end of 2019 was $4 for a 90-day supply!) and so I decided to check GoodRx out and see what it said. It took less than 90 seconds for a list of local pharmacies that would honor their discount and I was able to transfer my prescription to them and pay just $13, saving over $130!

It won’t help everyone every time and eventually after I satisfy my Medicare deductible, if may not help me at all, but it is worth a try.

If you don’t have any prescription insurance coverage, then it will absolutely save you money when you use it! GoodRx.com is 100% absolutely free and no personal information is required. Give it a try!

Why You Shouldn't Want a Huge Tax Refund
For the umpteenth time, I have to rail about tax returns and big tax refunds as I always do at this point in the year! Right now is the time of year taxpayers are thinking about their taxes and that long awaited tax refund. Nearly 72% of taxpayers received a tax refund last year, and the average direct deposit tax refund was close to $3,000 according to the IRS. And that’s even in the real life case that so many filers feel like their tax refund was actually a little low.

But since I opened up the box, I now have to ask the question:

“Why does getting a tax refund (of your own money) make you so happy?”

As They Say on TV, “It’s your money, get it now when YOU need it!”

You’ve seen those commercials, haven’t you? The ones that declare that you can get your money now and not have to wait when you have

Super Saving Tip of the Week:

A fancy restaurant, a big bunch of flowers, and an expensive present is what Valentine’s Day usually looks like, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Show your partner how much you love them, and how much they mean to you, by spending a lot less cash. And here’s how!

  • Have a romantic night in and make your own special romantic meal and save. The thought and effort you put into the evening will be more appreciated by your loved one.
  • Romantic gestures are often the ones that don’t cost money. Posting love notes around the house, handling some annoying errands, prepping a candle-lit bubble bath, or just spending more quality time together!
  • Make your own gifts and chances are you’ll have a lot of fun if you give each other home-made Valentine’s gifts. You can also make them a lot more personal using some of your favorite pictures or even a “mix tape” of your favorite songs!
Valentine’s Day, Friday February 14, 2020 is about showing your loved one how much they mean to you, but it doesn’t have to mean breaking your bank balance to do so. Take that money saved and put it towards paying off some real debt instead!
