A special message from Neighbour Day to our Very Neighbourly Organisations
View this email in your browser

Hi to all of our Very Neighbourly Organisations,

Our country is facing some undeniably tough times and neighbours across Australia are stepping up to help each other out. Never has there been a more important time to get to know your neighbours.

With this in mind, we will be contacting you - our Very Neighbourly Organisations (VNOs) - from time to time, with the aim to further develop our relationships with you all. We will also share information (we are learning all the time!), which may be of interest to your organisation.

This first message from us is about:

reconnecting with your organisation (things get busy, we may have lost touch, and we have some interesting information to share!);

getting into your diary to Save the Date for a special event in March, and

sharing some easy tips for how you as VNOs you can get involved in Neighbour Day 2020 and help encourage people to create connections far and wide.

Just in case you haven’t seen these already…

Neighbour Day 2020 Campaign Deck – 2-minute overview

ANU evaluation of Neighbour Day 2019 – preliminary findings

Swinburne evaluation of Neighbour Day 2018 – nested study

Save the date – 730 am Monday 23 March – A special Neighbour Day breakfast at Australian Parliament House in Canberra. The official invitation for a representative from your organisation to attend will follow shortly. We understand you may not have the time,  nor the budget to make it to this event, however, as Very Neighbourly Organisations you are definitely on our list of special guests!

Encouraging Social Connection is the essence of Neighbour Day every day and our theme for 2020. During our 2020 campaign, Neighbour Day will be actively encouraging Australians to realise the social, emotional and mental benefits of connecting with others, and joining and taking part in social groups.

Three simple ways you can be involved in Neighbour Day 2020

1. Photos with Neighbour Day 2020 selfie sign.  It would be great if you could take a few fun photos with our campaign sign. These could be of you, your colleagues, your neighbours, your communities.  The instructions are on the back of the sign. We will share your pics on social media during March in the lead up to Neighbour Day - and you are welcome to do so as well.  See below example image of Conservation Volunteers Australia’s (CVA) CEO Phil Harrison and a few of his team - and the sign! If you can send me an email with your best address, I will pop a few hard copies of the sign in the post to you. Alternatively, just download the sign from the Neighbour Day website and print your own.

2. What is your top tip (or three tips!) to create connections?  Tell us and we can share on social media in the month of March in the lead up to Neighbour Day as we encourage people to create connections. E.g. Smile and say g’day to everyone you see in your neighbourhood - every time you see them!

3. Follow Neighbour Day on social media.  Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and share relevant Neighbour Day content with your communities to encourage them to get involved and create connections. Also, subscribe to Verandah news for more neighbourly content to share.

We would love for you to take the lead as Very Neighbourly Organisations and get involved in our Neighbour Day 2020 campaign.

If you would like to do more (or are doing more!) than these three actions, please give me a call or drop me an email to discuss further.

Also, please continue to let us know what you are up to and what you are learning about your communities. Whether about social connection and inclusion, mental and physical health and wellbeing, resilience, what works and what doesn't - we want to hear from you!

We would love for you share your clever neighbourly ideas AND anything else you think we may find interesting. We promise to spread the word! [Now, scroll down and check out one VNO's photo. We look forward to seeing yours soon!]

Yours in neighbourliness,
Sam
