‘Delivering the dementia moonshot: a plan to find life-changing treatments’

We are pleased to see Alzheimer's Research UK call on government to invest in six priority research areas, which will help to deliver a life-changing treatment for dementia.

In their 2019 manifesto, the Conservative party pledged to launch a “Dementia Moonshot” to find a cure for dementia.
It was also good news to see the additional aim to double research funding and speed up trials for new treatments.

The government is now called upon to deliver on six key areas.

Did you know silent discos are enjoyed by people with dementia?

A silent disco streams music to your headphones allowing a very personal connection to music.

Two sisters, the team behind 'Silent Music Memories' run the discos in adult care homes and we thought to let you know how much residents with dementia are enjoying the experience.

“People who do not usually talk, sing along and they know all the words. Wheelchair users and those with frames get up and start dancing".

Get lyrical with the full story on our ehospice website.

Dementia survey needs your expertise

The Alzheimer’s Society is exploring the barriers to providing effective care and support along the dementia pathway. Let them know of your exemplar standards of practice. This is a chance to feed into a report on the state of dementia care later this year.

Take the survey and have your say. Thank you.

Support and care for people living with dementia from minority communities

We have discovered some resources from the Race Equality Foundation which we hope you find useful. Multiple resources, from various sources, are on offer from the Health and Care section of their website. These include:
  • Diversity and inclusiveness in dementia: Listening Event report, Salford Institute for Dementia
  • What do we know about the attitudes, experiences and needs of black and minority ethnic carers of people with dementia in the United Kingdom? A systematic review of empirical research findings
See links to these resources on one web page

If you like any of these and want to talk to us about putting them into practice we would love to hear from you.

They tell us the "programme has been designed so that people with dementia, unpaid carers, professionals working in dementia and industry experts can come together to share learning around the use of and benefits of technology."
