Roper By the Numbers
2019 was an exciting year at the Roper Center! Roper’s website had nearly 1.5 million page views and users analyzed 782,000 unique questions in the Roper iPoll Database. We added 295 new datasets from more than 35 organizations and a record-setting 17,794 new questions from 65 different organizations to the archive. Roper Center data were used in 300 academic publications and in more than 400 news mentions.

We thank our many data providers and supporters for helping us achieve such a successful year! For additional updates on our Small Media Initiative, 2016 NEP Election Day Exit Polls, America's Voice Project, the Roper 2020 Election Topic Tracker, and more, read the February 2020 issue of Roper’s Data Dive below.

New Data Spotlight
One of the Roper Center's newest data providers is MassINC. The MassINC Polling Group is a nonpartisan public opinion research firm serving public, private, and social-sector clients. MPG elevates the public's voice with cutting-edge methods and rigorous analysis. Based in Boston, MPG serves a nationwide client base. Click here to access MassINC’s data.

Another exciting addition to the collection, Charney Research is making unheard voices audible. They achieve this by using surveys in emerging markets and crisis countries to bring their unheard voices to companies, development groups, and conflict resolution or security assistance organizations. Craig Charney formed Charney Research in 1997 to accomplish this, after joining President Clinton’s 1996 polling team as Senior Analyst. To see the Charney Research Afghanistan 2007 poll, click here.

1938-1946 British Institute
of Public Opinion Polls

Questions from British Institute of Public Opinion (BIPO) polls from 1938-1946 have been added to the Roper iPoll question search database. BIPO was formed in 1936 to bring to the United Kingdom the new public opinion techniques pioneered by George Gallup, Elmo Roper, and Archibald Crossley in the U.S. BIPO’s work was proven accurate in predicting election results on multiple occasions, helping polling gain legitimacy with the British public and media. Roper 2020  Election Topic Tracker
Which issues are the polls focused on this election cycle, and how do they differ from 2016?  Although the horse race polls get the most attention, surveys during an election year also provide important information about what the public and likely voters think about relevant policy issues. In 2020, the Roper Center is comparing the polling between 2016 and 2020 on the substantive issues affecting voter opinion.  Which issues are the polls focused on this election cycle, and how do they differ from 2016? These charts track the volume of topical questions asked in 2020 polls and link directly to those poll results so users can easily navigate to the results.
