SHC Alumna gets scholarship award
from The Herb Block Foundation!

We are thrilled to share the news that Zainora Babayee was recently selected as a recipient of The Herb Block Scholarship award. The scholarship will provide assistance with her studies at Northern Virginia Community College. This is an awesome opportunity and recognition of her hard work and talent. Read more about Zainora's story here.
Welcome to new and returning teachers leading classes at the Hyattsville, New Carrollton, Landover and Rock Creek locations: Julie Kiersky, Domi Long, Martha Pien, Tarsheka Thompson, Amanda Wise, Amal Abuldood, and Muska Stanakzai as well as volunteers Susan Fox, Jessica Kang, Kathy Phelan, Karen Simon, Laila Sultan and Jennifer Taylor.

SHC group class students will be invited to a field trip to the National Air and Space Museum on March 25. Volunteers are needed so that we can assist students and their children with travel to and from the museum by public transportation. Please RSVP here to volunteer.

At the start of each class, SHC shares helpful information about events or resources that could benefit students and their families: free coat drives, ESL job trainings, free help with tax preparation, etc. If you have a resource to share, you can email it to us at info@shconnections.org.

Homework Helpers for Elementary-school children is a steady SHC feature on Saturdays 10:00-12:00pm. To volunteer to tutor children, sign-up here. Homework Helpers do not need prior tutoring experience but should be willing to tutor about once a month.

With love and appreciation,

Merritt, Kate and Yasmina

Surprise Valentines!
