Native CDFI Certification Program: Financial Management Specialization
(Accounting Fundamentals for NCDFIs - NCP102)
with Native Learning Center in Hollywood, Florida
March 24-26, 2020.


Oweesta is excited to partner with Native Learning Center to offer this Native CDFI Practitioner Certification Program course - Financial Management Specialization 
(Accounting Fundamentals for NCDFIs - NCP102). This three-day training will focus on the needs of Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and Native American Financial Institution (NAFI) practitioners or those seeking to start a Native CDFI or NAFI. Specifically, those practitioners working in finance/accounting, Board members (who may need to review/provide oversight to organizational finances), and executive directors or management tasked with reviewing/understanding accounting/finances for their organization. This training is also part of the Native CDFI Practitioner Certification and counts towards completing the Financial Management Certification as part of this program.

Oweesta is partnering with the Seminole Tribe of Florida's Native Learning Center. Chrystel Cornelius and Florence Ludka from Oweesta will lead this training. This interactive course will introduce accounting principles with respect to the preparation of accounting information, its use in the operation of the organization and financial reporting. Focus will be on understanding the fundamentals of accounting, debits and credits, accounting transactions and the preparation of financial statements.

   

Course Objectives Include:

  • Understand debits, credits and the use of T accounts.
  • Understand the difference between assets and liabilities and how to determine net assets.
  • Learn how to analyze your organization’s transactions and determine which amounts go into which accounts.
  • Create chart of accounts and enter transactions into accounts.
  • Practice journalizing transactions.
  • Practice transferring data from general journal to trial balance.
  • Hands on experience preparing financial statements from trial balance.
**Note: In order to receive a certificate of completion, participants will need to pass a required exam at the end of day 3 of the training (Oweesta will work with participants to prepare them for this exam) and will need to be present for that test time. 

This training will be held at the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Native Learning Center, located at 6363 Taft Street, Hollywood, Florida. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The training is tuition-free, however space is limited and we do ask that if you register and are unable to make it please contact us at Florence@oweesta.org to cancel.
