Updates from Both Capitals

Happy 2020! My first month of the New Year has been busy, as I’ve traveled to both our nation’s and state’s capitals to represent Issaquah.

In late January, I was honored to attend the United States Conference of Mayors’ 88th Winter Meeting in Washington, DC.

During my short trip, I met inspirational mayors from around the country, and we shared solutions to common problems: addressing climate change; developing a comprehensive approach to homelessness; achieving affordable housing; and getting an accurate count in the 2020 census.

Big or small, all cities share many of the same challenges, and I returned to Issaquah excited to share new ideas and strategies.

Soon after, I also traveled to Olympia to meet with our hard-working state legislators on Issaquah’s top priorities, including:
  • Widening of state Route 18, which will help with both critical safety and capacity issues.
  • Adding an additional crossing of Interstate 90 in Issaquah, which only has four crossings. Another crossing will relieve local traffic congestion, and help us plan for a future Sound Transit light rail station.
  • Supporting state tools that promote local fiscal sustainability.

I’m excited to continue my advocacy for Issaquah, and our top needs.

A Year Later: Southeast 62nd Street

It’s been a year since Issaquah opened the extension of Southeast 62nd Street – the largest capital project in our history.

Even after the road opened, our work wasn’t finished. I joined our retiring Public Works Engineering Director, Sheldon Lynne, for this video to learn more about our ongoing work, and this major enhancement to Issaquah’s northern transportation network.
