ABOUT ELDERBERRIES

We will officially meet once a month at a local Pleasanton trail. Hike dates and times will vary each month. The hikes will be led by myself and at times a special guest, an expert on a natural and/or cultural history topic or a City of Pleasanton beloved employee who loves the outdoors as much as we do. My hope is for you to get to know each other through your shared love for the outdoors and trek to other destinations together.

Photo: First Elderberries Hiking Club Hike at Augustin Bernal, February 2020

Greetings Elderberries!

Our first hike of the year was beautiful and full of nature's wonders. Along the way we spotted one of early spring's bloomers, Hound's Tongue wildflowers. An aviary destination, Augustin Bernal trails ringed with bird songs and calls. Turkey Vultures, Red-Tailed Hawks, Acorn Woodpeckers, and Ruby-Crowned Kinglets soared and foraged through the oak woodlands. Upon arriving at Turtle Pond, an impressive quantity of California Newt (salamander) eggs appeared as massive globs around the pond shoreline. Join us next month for yet another outdoor adventure!
