Official Start of our 2020 Dive Season

Once a year we enjoy the privilege of capping off a trip to Catalina with a tour of the Wrigley Hyperbaric Facility. This year we were grateful to receive our tour from the director of the chamber himself, Carl Huggins. As he showed us around the facility he explained where the chamber came from, why its important to us, and how it works. He also took the time to explain to us the reasons people end up in the chamber, and how we can prevent any non-recreational visits to the facility.

Our 2020 Eco Adventure Series is Off to a Flying Start

We have already gone out on two hiking trips. First one to Bridge to Nowhere in the San Gabriel Mountains, and the second one to Deep Creek Hot Springs in the San Bernadino National Forest. For both hikes, the theme was hydrotherapy. The beauty of these hikes is that we not only enjoy the beautiful scenery, but we learn about the plants we see along the way as well as how and why being out in nature can actually make us feel good.

We have more eco activities scheduled in the coming months. Come out to enjoy the great outdoors with us and also learn the physiological and psychological reasons why it always feel so good when you take a deep breath of fresh air.

Just Added: Premium Package Trip aboard the Giant Stride

February 29, 2020

Great news for those who have been looking for a way to enjoy great California diving with premium accommodations. Ocean Safari has teamed up with the Giant Stride to create an ultimate Southern California dive trip.

The Giant Stride, captained by Jim Simmerman and divemastered by Jeff Reeb, is a fast (12-14 knot speed) 42 feet boat that will accommodate six guests. Our trip is designed to maximize the diving experience for our guests. With the captain, divemaster, and Ocean Safari staff, the guests will enjoy low guest to staff ratio. We will dive those exclusive and secret dive sites only accessible to small boats with experienced captain and crew, and we go out only when the condition is either good or excellent. Don't worry, we have not overlooked the food. We are lucky to have Mrs. Reeb, a professional chef, prepare gourmet food for our trip. We will be eating well.

On Saturday, February 29, we will embark on a 3-tank dive trip (one daytime and two night dives). We will depart at 2:00pm and come back to the harbor by midnight.

Pro Freediving Certification Course

February 7-8, 15-17, 2020

We will hold a professional level freediving certification course taught by industry-renowned, freediving champion Seamus Callaghan in February. Whether you are just interested but never tried before, or have been freediving for years, we have classes to improve your skills. The techniques learned in our courses translate to scuba diving as well, so even if you don't want to be a spearfishing champion, you'll definitely become a better scuba diver!

The 2-day classroom session is scheduled on February 7 and 8 and the pool workshop on February 8. Then, we will head out to Catalina Island for openwater workshop at Two Harbor from February 15 to 17. We will stay at a vacation house on the island, where we will relax by warm campfire and enjoy gourmet cooking.

We also have basic freediving workshops on February 5. In these workshops we will cover some fundamental freediving skills, which are not covered in the pro freediving course.

Islands of Loreto to Northern La Paz, Southern Sea of Cortez Dive Expedition

The islands of Loreto and northern La Paz are hidden gems on the Sea of Cortez with peaceful charm and dazzling landscapes. This area is very difficult to reach within the time restraints of a short day trip, which means that this area is rarely visited and remains pristine. We will spend 7 days and 6 nights on the newest member of the Nautilus Liveaboard fleet, the Gallant Lady. This American built, Broward luxury yacht is 116 feet long and hosts just 12 guests, providing a spacious feeling while also allowing crew members to provide an extra personal touch.

Join us for an unforgettable journey in one of the most biodiverse waters in the world, which Jacques Cousteau called “The Aquarium of the World.”
