tonight's pick-me-ups

Things we're doing to unwind and get cozy before bed tonight:

🏡 Fluffing up our pillows. The best part of a lazy Sunday is the space you spend it in. Try a few simple fixes to show your home that you care from speeding up a slow shower head to silencing noisy door hinges.

🍳 Dishing it up. The only hobby we love more than watching movies is eating. Meal prep
one of these dishes inspired by the 2020 Oscar nominees, including Little Women's cheesy croissant casserole (omg) or Parasite's peach cobbler.

🛍️ Adding to the wish list. Thanks to a glimpse into
this year's Oscars gift bags, we have our eyes on a baby alpaca throw blanket and Spanish island getaway among the $225,000 worth of swag.

🛁 Making the most of #SelfcareSunday. Discover exactly how to enjoy your workout (finally), take some *deep breaths*, get a little wild, and indulge in your guilty pleasure
according to your zodiac sign.

Reads when you're up late anyway. Here are tonight's round-up for every occasion:

 RELATIONSHIPS
For when it comes to friendships, politics do matter ~ Tbh we're still exhausted from 2016. This is how to navigate the election year with whom we love and trust. "Ultimately, to deem another person trusted, you have to be willing to be vulnerable. And, as even Aristotle knew, vulnerability can be hard to achieve — but it’s at the heart of that 'deep and meaningful and really intimate' experience. Not every friend has to be your best friend, but if you’re actively hiding a vital part of yourself to maintain a friendship? I would argue that, even if you never say it out loud, that person is not truly your friend ... But you know when you feel safe — and when you do, that’s where friendship lives."

INTERESTING  For when happily ever after is a myth ~ When you're a princess, that is. If there's anything to learn from Megxit, it's to own your own fairy tale. "The thing is, the plot of Cinderella (and all her fairy-tale sorority sisters) ends with the royal wedding. We never see Cinderella’s future (or Snow White’s or Ariel’s or Julia Roberts’s after Richard Gere rescues her in his limo). We assume they go on to lifetimes of happiness, but we don’t actually know. Fairy-tale princesses don’t have futures; they can’t. If they did, they’d lose their magical aura ... There’s no princess-y future available to them."

CULTURE  For when awards season comes to an end tonight ~ If you feel more relieve than excited, totally understandable as this piece questions whether the Oscars truly celebrates movies. "If we could halt the Oscars after the nominees are announced and just celebrate those lists, I’d be a lot happier. It’s not that everyone deserves a trophy — it’s that picking between them does some disservice to the movies themselves, narrowing history’s focus to the winners, some of which don’t deserve the attention. (The list of Best Picture winners from the past decade has some highs — Moonlight and Spotlight spring to mind — but it certainly has the Green Books and Argos to match.) ... In the end, what I really love is the movies."

WELLNESS  For when it's hard to be happy ~ Turns out sleep routines and countering negative thoughts are more of a struggle. These common happiness advice that have been tested and actually worked. "Sneak peek: Reading before bed. Practicing the habit didn’t come without its challenges, including a struggle to keep up with it consistently and the need to spend time processing a book (which is difficult right before you turn the lights out). That said, she’s excited to continue reading before getting that shut-eye. Win."
