Drama Kids February Newsletter

Are you getting excited for our Spring Performance? We'll be developing teamwork as we begin preparations for the end of the year!

Feb. 2020

Dear Parents:

Drama Kids is the largest international after-school drama program.  Our curriculum is devoted to an extensive developmental drama experience designed to teach a wide-variety of drama activities, which will increase your child's confidence and oral communication skills. The end of the year aims to amalgamate many of the drama and life skills taught during the year, into a Spring Performance on Saturday, May 16th (for all locations EXCEPT Baker Elementary) and Sunday, May 17th (for Baker Elementary students only). To be part of an original Drama Kids one-act play is a very rewarding, exciting time for the children!

Our dynamic program works to:
   •   DEVELOP ONGOING CONFIDENCE
   •   BUILD SELF-ESTEEM
   •   EMPOWER CHILDREN VERBALLY
   •   ENCOURAGE ATTENTIVE LISTENING

We are privileged to be part of the development of such important life-long character building skills in your child and thank you for the opportunity to do so.

We look forward to starting Spring Rehearsals soon!

Sincerely,
Melissa

LOWER PRIMARY
This month in Lower Primary, we'll be starting rehearsals for our Spring Performance one act! We are so excited to jump into our scripts and characters as a team. We'll also be learning new movements skills focused in partner work and characterization, as well as projecting loudly and proudly on stage. We can't wait to get started!

UPPER PRIMARY
This month in Upper Primary, we'll be starting rehearsals for our Spring Performance one act! We can't wait to use what we've learned so far to tell an amazing story. We'll also be diving into new Mini-Scripts, performing movement based Whole Group Improvs, and practicing our improv skills!

ACTING ACADEMY
This month in Acting Academy, we'll be starting rehearsals for our Spring Performance one act! We can't wait to dive into a new style of acting and tackle new challenges. We'll also be jumping into the art of character relationships and developing a plot for those characters. Our Drama Kids will be developing their own creative dramatics pieces and blocking scenes with objectives in mind!

Our end-of-the-year Spring Performances provide students with opportunity to showcase everything they have learned and worked hard on this year in Drama Kids class! Spring Performance rehearsals will begin the week of February 24th. It is required that students attend all classes going forward from this week. It is of the upmost importance that students are in class, working as a team to continue building speech and communications skills as well as to learn their one-act plays.

Speaking of which...we bet you're dying to know more about what our Drama Kids will be performing in May! Here's a sneak peek of the one-act plays that will be performed by Lower Primary, Upper Primary, and Acting Academy classes:

"School for Superheroes"

It's a bird!  It's a plane!  No!  It's our big-hearted School of Superheroes!  These superheroes are back in school for another fun and fabulous school year.  However...the Superhero school may be closed for good!  Is someone trying to sabotage the school?  Will these talented individuals be able to work together to keep the school open?  Join us as we find out what it takes to become a TRUE superhero!

"The Grasshopper and the Ants"
Classes: Baker Elementary Lower Primary, Chenal Elementary, Forest Heights STEM Academy, Jefferson Lower Primary

Hurry, hurry, hurry!  The ants are ready to get to work!  They MUST use their time now in the summer to prepare for the upcoming winter season.  Just as they are hustling to get to work, fun-loving Grasshopper shows up, mocking the ants for their hard work.  As winter arrives, Grasshopper learns just why those ants were working so hard gathering food for winter!  What will happen to Grasshopper?  Will the ants come to his rescue when he needs it?  Come to our performance to find out if Grasshopper learns his lesson of when to work and when to play!
