East Midlands Beginners, Intermediates and Junior Competition 7th March 2020

East Midlands Beginners, Intermediate and Junior competition. If you would like to enter more than 1 category please contact Radcliffe Sword Club for a discount code.

Entry criteria:


Beginner - under 2 years fencing experience in any weapon and at least 13 years of age.
Intermediate - under 4 years fencing experience in any weapon and at least 13 years of age.
Junior - under 3 years fencing experience in any weapon and between 10 and 12 years of age.

 

All senior entrants must have been at least 13 years of age on 1st Jan 2020. All entrants must be a member of a club affiliated to the East Midlands Region of England Fencing. Beginners must have started fencing later than 1st April 2018 (so max two years experience). Intermediates must have started fencing later than 1st April 2016 (max four years experience). Any fencer who has won an Open competition is not eligible. Any fencer who has previously won an event at the East Mids Beginners and Intermediate championships may not enter that same event again.

 

Junior entrants must be aged 10-12 on 1st Jan 2020 and have no more than three years' experience fencing in any weapon.

Important Information:

The East Midlands Beginners and Intermediate Competitions are competitions for newer fencers (beginners: 2 years experience; intermediate: 4 years experience) and are an excellent introduction to competitive fencing. The day is structured so that fencers who are eligible may take part in both the Beginner and Intermediate competitions for their weapon, or foil and one other weapon at the same grade. Please do not enter two competitions in the same part of the day.

£25 for one event. £30 for two events. Contact the organiser for the discount code if entering two events.

 

Format 

One round of poules followed by direct elimination. Subject to numbers, poules may be of mixed sex with separate male and female DE following, seeded based on complete poule ranking. Electronic scoring apparatus will be used throughout. Please bring the correct equipment – if in doubt ask your coach! New passivity rules will be enforced.

East Midlands BYC Qualifier Competition 8th March 2020.

Entry Requirements:

Years of Birth for this season are: U12 – Born 2008 or 2009 U14 – Born 2006 or 2007 U16 – Born 2004 or 2005 U18 – Born 2002 or 2003 Fencers may only enter the RQE in the Region they have specified on their BF Membership. Fencers may only fence in one qualifying event in one Region per season. Fencers must be UK residents.

Entrants may compete in multiple events within their age bracket. Entry costs are:-

1 weapon          £25.00
2 weapons        £45.00
3 weapons        £65.00

The competitions are run under BF rules, subject to changes outlined in these rules. For the finals the formula is one round of poules without elimination, followed by Direct Elimination.

In the U12 & U14 competitions the maximum blade sizes are: Foil – size 3, Epee – size 2 and Sabre – size 2.

In the U16 & U18 Foil events size 5 blades will be used throughout and lame bibs and mask wires will be required.

As per BF rules, it is a safety requirement that FIE/CEN2/800N Sabre gloves are to be worn at all times whilst competing (unless both fencers are using size 3 or size 0 blades). 

In the U12 events, DE Tableau fights are to 10 hits in 3 periods of 2 minutes with a gap of 1 minute. 

BYC Finals Qualification:

Any fencer who reached the last 8 in their event at last year’s BYC National Finals may claim a bye in this year’s finals in the same weapon regardless of age group. 

FENCERS CLAIMING A BYE MUST ENTER THE RQE, but do not need to fence.

In addition to fencers claiming a bye, the top 8 fencers in each event will qualify for the BYC finals. Any fencers who qualify but do not wish to compete in the finals MUST notify DT on the day.

East Midlands GB Cup Qualifier/Senior Championships 22nd March 2020

Entry Requirements:

The East Mids Senior event is open to all fencers over age 14 who are affiliated to East Midlands region, or fence at an East Midlands region club. To be eligible to qualify for the GB Cup final fencers must: Be aged 16 or over on 1 January 2020. Be ranked outside of the top 50 of National Senior rankings in their weapon for Women’s Foil, Epee, Sabre and Men’s Sabre and top 80 for Men’s Foil and Epee as at 1 January 2020. Have never been selected by BF, home nation or other national equivalents to represent their Nation at any level (including GB, home nations or other national equivalents). Have never won a Senior Open event Fencers may only enter the Regional event in the Region they have specified on their British Fencing Membership. Fencers may enter the GB Cup in all weapons (epee, foil & sabre). Fencers must be UK residents. Entries will only be accepted via the Regions.

Cost: One event £25; two events £45; three events £65. If entering multiple events contact the organiser for the discount code.
