From the Principal
Greetings families!
We are in quarter three of this school year, and students are settling into their new classes for this semester. There are tryouts for the spring musical and spring sports, and basketball season is still underway. Juggling all of that is hard for adults and kids, but please keep an eye on ParentVUE this quarter.
This week staffing is released for the 2020-2021 school year, and I’ll be sharing what that looks like for us and what options we see for next year as part of the general PTA meeting already scheduled for Tuesday at 6:00 pm in the library. If you aren’t able to make it, I’ll be doing it again this Friday at the parent coffee, 9:30 am in the Community Room.
This is also a great point in time for us to reflect on the first half of the year and make adjustments for this school year. Students finished MAPS testing in reading and math, and teachers have been looking at comparisons between fall and winter. In general, we are seeing what we expected to see, and teachers are getting information about skills to highlight over the next 4 months.
Students in grade 7 and 8 will be taking the Successful Skills Survey quite soon as well. This is particularly useful information because students get to give us feedback completely anonymously to better support their academic and emotional development. Students last year were quite thoughtful in their observations and responses, and I will be sharing a little on how we used their feedback this year at the Parent Coffee on Friday. You too can provide feedback on the aspects of Jackson that are working and not working, completely anonymously, through the Successful Schools Survey link emailed to you on January 27th (and reprinted in the box above).
