BHS Newsletter

Healthcare with dignity for the last-mile communities

Dear friends of Basic HealthCare Services,
With the beginning of the new year,we are happy to share the first edition of our quarterly newsletter. We hope to bring to you the untold stories from the far off villages of Southern Rajasthan along with some latest updates and happenings on the ground.Hope you enjoy reading this edition!
Sunita,a primary healthcare nurse poses with a new born delivered in the wee hours at AMRIT Clinic Rawach. Rawach being a hilly area with highly inaccessible habitations, the women had to travel 7 kms for a safe delivery.
Despite cheap and convenient diagnostic tests, fairly straight forward treatment protocols, readily available drugs and practical measures to curb malaria,it continues to affect and kill the poorest and voiceless.
Catchment areas of AMRIT Clinics, Kojawada and Rawach saw a surge of malaria epidemic. We organised an active surveillance program to identify and treat cases of malaria and launched preventive measures to control the outbreak. To know more on how we managed the outbreak, visit the links below.

Exploring financing models  for primary healthcare
Primary Healthcare Initiative,a joint initiative of BHS with IIM Udaipur organised a Consultation on Financing Primary Healthcare in Nov'19. Panelists from prominent organisations were invited to brainstorm on developing a sustainable financial model to run a block level health centre.
Nurturing young doctors

While a lot of young doctors, after graduating, aspire to pursue specialization and super specialization and then land up with a career in corporate hospitals. Many other doctors, however, wish to pursue an alternate career, that is more fulfillingethical, and allow them to transform healthcare..They however do not find an opportunity to develop skills or develop networks for this alternate career. We have partnered with AFPI and EHAC,to help provide such young doctors an opportunity to immerse in learning journey for a year with us,starting from January 2020.
Stay tuned to read more about the experiences of our fellow doctor.

Transforming healthcare,building trust through PHC
4 years ago the PHC saw around 10-15 patients in a  day which mirrored the trust of the community in the healthcare center. After the PHC was adopted by us under the Public private partnership model, the PHC has been transformed. From being understaffed and inaccessible health centre to now having a staff of over 20 members while providing round the clock services both at the centre and on the field,PHC Nithauwa has helped rebuild trust within the community.
In the picture,is our staff from PHC Nithauwa, who received recognition from the Government of Rajasthan for their efforts in Poshan Abhiyan. This campaign was launched addressing malnutrition and improving nutritional status among children 0-6yrs.

Striving for excellence,always
While most of our work is visible on field, there is a lot going on in the back office too. Recently,we have been awarded with GuideStar India’s Gold Certification for the year 2020.It is the Advance Level certification indicating that high level of accountability and good governance procedures are being adopted by our organisation.
As 2019 comes to an end,the entire BHS operations team reflected on the year that has gone by and geared up for the year to come.
From the entire BHS Team,we wish you all a very happy new year!
