Armatage SEL (Social-Emotional-Learning) Parent Connection Newsletter

January has gone by in a flash!  This is going to be a combined newsletter for January and February.  In January our SEL focus at Armatage has been focused on valuing diverse perspectives.  Our professional development has been focused on critical literacy which means helping students ask questions about text and the world around them.  We have also been offering students diverse texts and opportunities to see the world through different lenses. The research is clear that providing all children access to “windows and mirrors” through the text they read can help them see themselves and to have a glimpse into other cultures and different perspectives.  As you interact with your children, ask them about their perspective and offer different ones for them to consider. We are including articles and resources to promote this learning at home.

This will also align with our Family Inclusion celebration on Friday, March 20th from 7:45-10:30am.  Please mark your calendars!  We will need both volunteers and parents and families to attend this exciting event! Email Carey.Seeley@mpls.k12.mn.us if you are interested in volunteering that day. (Read More)

Principal Franks' Letter - Jan 2020

(Repeated post from last week): The first half of the school year is in the record books.  I continually tell my two sons the old adage, “The days are long, but the years are short.”  It is a reminder to them to slow down and enjoy the time they have with their children, as it becomes memories before you know it. Please keep Beyblades at home

Over the course of the last few weeks, we have seen a significant increase in the number of students bringing Beyblades (a new version of spinners) to school. They have become extremely disruptive to the learning environment and created many hard feelings as they get lost, stolen / or broken. Effectively immediately, we will take them and return them to kids on the last day of school. (Read More)

Armatage Family Directory

Every year, Armatage provides a Family Directory so families can connect with other families for things like playdates, birthday parties, or to find neighbors who also go to Armatage. Join Our Class offers a free Family Directory software program that is secure, password protected, available online or on an app and allows you to update and edit your information anytime!

We hope this is helpful to you and can be used to help grow your community at Armatage!  Feedback, questions, omissions, errors in or about the Directory can be directed to Sonja at armatagecommunications@gmail.com
