Feb 2020 Braking News
from the Rockland Bicycling Club

Here are Five Things to Know this month about riding in and around Rockland County.
  1. Why Winter Riding is so... chill: The RBC January meeting featured club member Rob Panzera's talk, Tips and Tricks for Cold Weather Riding. Need some motivation for riding during the 4th cycling season? Read what motivates road and mountain cyclists in Baby, It's Cold Outside. Let's go for a ride! on RocklandBicyclingClub.org.
  1. Girl's Night Out for Women Cyclists: RBC Board member Cynthia Turner is hosting a Girl's Night Out for women who ride bicycles on Feb 12. It's a social meet and greet to share stories about bicycling experiences, and to plan women-only rides when the weather gets warmer. Interested? Or know someone who might like to attend? Email Cynthia@RocklandBicyclingClub.org for more info.
  1. Cuomo's eBike proposal is NYC-friendly, not so much for the rest of NYS: Class I eBikes are pedal assisted bicycles that make hills and parking problems melt away. They're green too, getting the equivalent of 2000 mpg! However, an eBike plan proposed by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo could strangle eBike growth outside of New York City. Sleek eBikes owner Edward Busk explains
  1. Ride On! In 2019, the RBC rode a cumulative 17,170 miles. That's the equivalent of riding from Fairbanks, Alaska to Key West, Florida...3.4 times! Where should we go this year? We're currently planning a Tour de Rockland 2.0, Escape from Rockland rides, and local area history rides, too. What do you want to do in 2020? Do you prefer more casual rides? Faster rides? Rides that start on different days, times, or locations? Please share your ideas with our ride leaders as we plan the 2020 ride schedule.
  1. Website Notifications: If you aren't getting email alerts about upcoming rides, you can update the info you will be sent by logging on to RocklandBicyclingClub.org, and then clicking Membership and Edit My Info. The Notifications screen lets you set how many days before a ride you will get an email reminder (we recommend three days and one day before the ride) and the types of rides (A / B / C / D / All levels) you'd like to know about.
New member update: A warm welcome to new RBC members Thomas De Gregorio, Elyse & Howard Gerber, Jim Mertz, Dorrie Peralta, and Marc Soloff. Thanks for joining the Rockland Bicycling Club!

Help Wanted! The RBC is seeking volunteers to help us with this bicycle advocacy, producing this newsletter, and updating our website. Also, we are always looking for new ride leaders and new rides and routes, too!

Email RocklandBike@GMail.com to get involved. Until then, Ride Safe!
