Notes from the General Manager
February 2020

_______________

We’re halfway through winter!

Groundhog Day is one of my favorite holidays; as a farmer saying goes, February 2nd is when you’re halfway through your candles and halfway through your hay.

As we continue into the new year and stretch our legs and come out of our winter caves, Daily will also be stretching out.  We have exciting changes coming with a store remodel in February and March, which will include an expanded wellness section, more prepared foods, and more space for grocery deals.  We’re also working to continue expanding our local bread and pastry offerings in the coming months. Keep an eye on the bulk section, too, as it goes through a refresh and we continue to add new items.

Stay on the look-out for lots of demos, tablings, and pop-ups in the next few months.  We also have a monthly tabling with board members where we’ll be putting together Daily’s Very Good Puzzle painted by Mary Porter.  Fun times!

Here’s to brightening days as the winter wanes.  Welcome.

Board Meeting Highlights
January 2020

_______________

On January 13th, 2020, we had our monthly board meeting.  Our Policy Governance reporting was on the executive constraints placed on the general manager and how the co-op strives for compliance with all board policies and with adhering to the Seven Cooperative Principles:

  1. Open and Voluntary Membership

  2. Democratic Member Control

  3. Members’ Economic Participation

  4. Autonomy and Independence

  5. Education, Training, and Information

  6. Cooperation Among Cooperatives

  7. Concern for Community

We also discussed the design of the new floor plan for Daily, as well as board training and development for new directors in the coming year.
