KWIC is starting off the month by celebrating International Development Week 2020 in hosting the Global Community Network this evening, Tuesday February 4th at 5pm. Tomorrow we are hosting the KWIC Open House at the Global Education and Resource Centre from 1-3pm. We have lots more coming up, so be sure to save the dates and click on the interactive links in our newsletter for more details!

Cultivating Resistance: Diverse economic responses to climate chaos
With popular educator and academic, Chris Cavanagh

Content:
Understanding, collectively, that a capitalist economic system has driven the current climate crisis, we invite you to join us to imagine sustainable, socially and environmentally just economic systems in which everyone contributes and thrives.

Using popular economic theory and praxis, participants will discuss and engage with diverse economic understandings and collectively explore better ways forward.

The Cost of Freedom: Refugee Journalists in Canada

Thurs Feb 27th:
Refugee Journalists in Canada with James Cullingham with Gzowski College and NCC.
7pm @ Nozhem Theatre at Trent University.
Cullingham will share a short demo of a documentary in-development, titled “The Cost of Freedom: Refugee Journalists in Canada,” and will discuss his research and the process of making the film.
The event will also feature a panel discussion with film subjects Abdulrahman Matar (originally from Syria); Arzu Yildis (Turkey); and Luis Najera (Mexico).

A storytelling art workshop series for
International Women's Day 2020 Community Art Installation



Walks of Life Through HERstory - Storytelling Art Workshop Series
Facilitated by the Trent Visual Arts Network
Storytelling led by Peyton Lebarr, Grassboots Theatre Company

Workshop Details:
Guests are invited to participate in a unique storytelling activity led by Peyton Lebarr from Grassboots Theatre Company, to reflect on the diverse journeys of women and LGBTQ2S+ folx in the community and around the world. Participants are invited to engage in thoughtful reflection on the themes of interconnectedness and rising together in solidarity as we all come from unique walks of life.

The storytelling activity will be followed by the visual arts workshop facilitated by the Trent Visual Arts Network, where participants will design and create felt footprint art, symbolizing the unique footprints we leave behind as we walk through life on our personal journeys.

All the footprints will be arranged to create a footprint mandala installation which will be revealed at the International Women's Day 2020 event in Peterborough, "Together We Rise" on Sunday, March 8th.

This is a drop-in friendly workshop. Stay as long as you wish, arrive whenever you can.
