2019 Foothills Food Summit Report

The Foothills Community Food Partnership planned and hosted the 2019 Foothills Food Summit in order to engage the community in a conversation about food access and the food landscape in the Foothills. The conversation themes will be used to update the Foothills Food Action Plan, a comprehensive plan to improve food access in the Foothills.

On October 10, 2019, over 60 community partners and residents joined together at the East Whatcom Regional Resource Center to learn about the current state of food access in the region as well as accomplishments since the previous summit in 2014.

This report summarizes the information shared at the Summit and the themes and ideas that emerged from participants’ discussions.

My, How We Have Grown!

The Winter and Spring Pantry Program, hosted by the Foothills Food Bank in partnership with volunteers, has been growing! This program delivers supplemental, nutritious food boxes to any MBSD student in need to help prevent hunger over school breaks.

Saturday, February 1st (doors at 10 AM, distribution 11:30-12:30 PM) & Friday, February 21st (distribution 10 AM - 11 AM)

Building Two on the EWRRC Campus is almost complete! Construction is set to be completed by the end of the month, and the Foothills Food Bank will move in by the end of March.

The Building will provide a permanent home for the Foothills Food Bank and will offer the community two multipurpose rooms. These rooms will each have their own exterior entrances which will support a more private meeting setting.
