Coming Soon to OC Parks Near You

2020 promises to be an exciting year at OC Parks, with new projects and park improvements in the works. Here are some of the highlights to look forward to.

  • OC Zoo: If you’ve visited the OC Zoo in Irvine Regional Park recently, you’ve seen the beautiful new interim entry plaza. This not only makes a great gateway to the zoo, but also adds much-needed restrooms! Next on tap for improvements are a new large mammal exhibit that will give mountain lions Santiago and Modjeska more room to stretch their paws. Construction is expected to start this spring and finish by the end of this year or early 2021. Stay up to date on our project page.
  • Crawford Canyon Park: OC Parks held its second community meeting in January to collect input for a 2.5-acre neighborhood park at Newport Avenue and Crawford Canyon Road in North Tustin. Plans include grass and native plant landscaping, play areas and exercise stations.
  • Capistrano Beach: OC Parks is currently initiating a Master Plan for the long-term vision of Capistrano Beach. There will be a second public workshop on Feb. 26 at the OC Sailing & Event Center, at which public and stakeholder input is welcome and encouraged. For more information, see the postcard invitation.
  • Irvine Regional Park: Work will start on a new, 3,400 square-foot picnic shade structure at Falcon Flats, scheduled to open next year. It will have barbecue grills, power outlets, water and a food prep station. When complete, it will be available for reservation through our online reservations system.
  • New Parks Signage: You may have seen the fresh, new signage and wayfinding at Irvine Regional Park. Next on tap is a primary monument sign for Salt Creek Beach at the Selva parking lot, and for Laguna Niguel Regional Park. Look for more rolling out soon.
  • Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park: The new visitor center is expected to be open in the fall of 2020. It will include restrooms and exhibits.
  • Make sure to check our projects page for updates on all the new exciting improvements and amenities in our project pipeline, and watch our Top 3 video for more information about the planning process.
