Class of 2023 Guidance Update February 2020

2020-2021 Course Registration

All students received a copy of the 10th grade registration card in 1st period today, February 3rd. If your child was absent today, please remind them to ask their 1st period teacher for a card tomorrow, February 4th.
Students will make initial course selections in their English classes starting Wednesday, February 5.
Please speak with your child about what courses they would like to take next year, to include both core, elective, and academy courses.
After the initial course selection, I will be meeting one-on-one with each student to discuss and finalize their selections. This process usually takes most of spring semester, so please be patient as I work through the entire freshmen class :)
Most core class (Math, English, Science and Social Studies) selections are based on test scores and prior grades. Enrollment in certain elective classes is on a space available basis, and is not guaranteed.

Focus Parent Portal

Focus Parent Portal is the best resource for checking your child's grades, viewing progress toward graduation, and communicating with your child's teachers.
Students and parents are encouraged to check Focus at least once a week.

Course Grades/Credit

A student's GPA is only affected by semester grades. At BTWHS, our semesters run from August-December and January-May. Students' quarter grades do not directly affect their GPA, and do not appear on their transcript.
If your child failed a core class (Math, English, or Science), I spoke to them in January about night school. Night school sessions will be held January 21-March 12, and March 23-May 7. Students who were not allowed to enroll in the first session due to space will be signed up for the second session.
Students can only make up 1 semester of a class in each session.

Volunteer Books

If your child is currently volunteering, please have them keep track of their hours (dates, times, organizations) so they can record them once they receive their book.
Once the new books arrive, every student will need to fill out the Volunteer Service Application and Approval Form in order to get a book.

Google Classroom

Google Classroom - All freshmen should join the "Wildcats Class of 2023" Google Classroom using the code mrqejex. If you are a school district employee, you can also join with your ECSD email. There is information posted about scholarships, colleges, careers, and other important documents in the classwork section. Announcements will also be made on the stream section. Please feel free to ask your child to pull up the Google Classroom so you can all be informed.
