Hong Kong’s Ocean Park is going through a rough patch. Consecutive losses since 2016 have been compounded by the park’s temporary closure due to the coronavirus outbreak. All the while, theme parks have proven highly profitable elsewhere in Asia, some even needing to expand to accommodate growing numbers of visitors

Disney’s DIS first-quarter fiscal 2020 results, scheduled to be released on Feb 4, are expected to have benefited from strong box-office collections of Frozen 2 and Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker.

5.  Digital dreams: Disney tech brings characters to life in VR

The latest example comes via a patent filed by Burbank, California-based The Walt Disney Co. (NYSE: DIS) that enhances a guest's ability to use virtual/augmented reality — known as AR and VR — to become various Disney characters. The patent, dubbed “Image customization using a persona,” appears to find another layer to the overall mission to bring VR and AR to a wider audience. 

6.  The 'tallest, fastest and longest' roller coaster will open in San Antonio later this month

SeaWorld San Antonio announced Monday on Facebook its new wooden roller coaster, the Texas Stingray, will begin operations Saturday, Feb. 29.
 

7.  Disneyland's Rise Of The Resistance Is Still Breaking Down Quite A Bit

Rise of the Resistance as an attraction was possibly more highly anticipated that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge itself, as the new ride, which now exists at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, is one of the most advanced and complex things ever created by Walt Disney Imagineering. Of course, with that level of complexity comes increased possibilities for break downs, and it seems that, in the first two weeks of operation at Disneyland, Rise of the Resistance has seen more than its share of downtime.

8.  Saudi 'giga project' Qiddiya kicks off 12-month ground preparation work

Construction at Qiddiya – the site earmarked as Saudi Arabia's future "capital of entertainment, sports and the arts" – has moved into a new phase, with the appointment of Saudi road construction company Abdul Ali Al-Ajmi to undertake a 12-month ground preparation project.

Elpitiya Plantations PLC ("Elpitiya") is an associated company of Sri Lankan listed blue chip conglomerate Aitken Spence PLC.

WonderWorks Pigeon Forge is currently accepting nominations for its first annual WonderKids program. Now through April 17, 2020, teachers can nominate high-achieving students whom they feel should be recognized for their achievements inside and outside of the classroom. The ceremony for the event will be held on May 16, 2020, and it will feature a keynote speech from former NASA astronaut, Dr. Don Thomas.

8.  St. Charles History Museum seeking additional city funding

ST. CHARLES – Outgoing St. Charles History Museum Executive Director Alison Costanzo appeared before the St. Charles City Council's Government Operations Committee on Monday to ask for a $6,000 increase in annual funding from the city.
 

9.  ETF and Jora Vision showcasing new dark ride product for FECs during Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo

In Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, ETF Ride Systems and Jora Vision are presenting a brand new product for Family Entertainment Centres (FEC’s): “Pirate Mania” at the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo, running through February 5.

3.  Typhoon Texas in Pflugerville looking to fill 600 positions

A major hiring push from Typhoon Texas in Pflugerville. The waterpark is looking to fill 600 seasonal positions ahead of the summer season.
 

4.  First-ever overwater cabanas in the Bahamas now open

The swanky digs are part of Royal Caribbean’s just-opened Coco Beach Club, an exclusive new area at the line’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay. Unveiled on Friday, the area also offers a ritzy private beach, infinity pool, upscale restaurant and al fresco bar.

5.  Future of Oktibbeha County Lake, water park undetermined

There has been a lot of discussion of whether the waterpark at the KOA, Wet-n-Wild, will be opening this summer. According to Butler, the water park has been closed for around five years. There was talk of it reopening this summer, but now the issues with the levee could prevent it from happening.

1.  Bramble Park Zoo in Watertown receives $1-million anonymous donation

WATERTOWN, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The Bramble Park Zoo received exciting news Monday night at the Watertown City Council Meeting. It was announced that an anonymous donor has agreed to make a $1 million donation to the Bramble Park Zoo, which will now allow them to move forward with the building of an animal care facility.

9.  St. Louis Welcomes New Aquarium At Union Station

Located in Union Station, the St. Louis Aquarium at Union Station opened on Christmas Day 2019 with over 13,000 creatures in its exhibits and six galleries highlighting everything from local river ecosystems to the dark depths of the ocean.
 

10.  The 7 Seas Aquarium set to open at Temple Mall on Feb. 24

TEMPLE, Texas —  The 7 Seas Aquarium announced in a press release Monday that they plan to open on Feb. 24 at the Temple Mall.  The release said the original unit the company planned to use was too small for the requirements of the City of Temple.

1.  U.S. expected to welcome 28% fewer China visitors in 2020

The United States could see a 28% drop in visits from China this year and lose $10.3 billion in cumulative travel spending over the next few years because of coronavirus, according to a projection from Tourism Economics.

5.  Hard Rock Hotel’s final happy hour bids farewell to memories

The announcement was expected, but it wasn’t any less odd to hear around 2 a.m. Monday.  The bartenders at Center Bar at the Hard Rock Hotel, a raucous 24-hour destination for tourists and locals alike in Las Vegas for more than two decades, proclaimed last call as part of the property’s scheduled shutdown for renovations.
