Last month, we presented the proposed 2020 Compact activities. Please see a brief description below.
- BECDD X DNHC Pilot: This Building the Engine project involves 7-8 CDOs working as a cohort to develop and implement single family housing acquisition/rehab/resale pilot. It is intended to address the disproportionate ratio of development cost to market value, limited gap funding, the uneven capacity and longer-term financing needs of CDOs.
- United Way Pilot: The United Way developed a pilot with support from DFC to address systemic barriers and create a viable pathway for cost burdened renters to transition to affordable home ownership. The five key components include: a viable consumer financing structure, an engaged and motivated pool of homebuyers, a property pipeline, a supply of working capital for housing rehab and a network of post-purchase supports.
- City Engagement
- Single Family Housing Strategy - this process has officially begun and DFC will keep the Compact informed of important updates.
- Tenant Supports - the project has not yet been scoped, but DFC (through the Compact) will work with the City to identify existing resources and potentially create tools for tenants.
- Middle Neighborhoods Report - this research brief will provide strategies for tipping point neighborhoods.
- Resident's Lived Experience - Compact resources will be reserved to identify opportunities to ensure that the lived experience of those renting, buying or owning in the single family housing system influences the work of the long-term work of the Compact.
- Housing Rehab Case Studies - In spite of limited funding sources, nonprofits find creative ways to stabilize neighborhoods, put homes back into productive use and house families. We seek to capture those experiences and lessons to build capacity in the single family housing delivery system.
- Ecosystem mapping - This project will take inventory of the organizations and systems that make up the single family housing delivery system and, ideally, demonstrate the opportunities for greater collaboration and problem-solving capacity.
We asked Work Group members to identify projects they wish to support. Please see their responses below. To make updates, please email Charniece Lang at clang@detroitfuturecity.com.
