Tēnā Koutou Film Bay of Plenty Community, how awesome was it that Taika Waititi was the first indigenous filmmaker to get an Oscar!
After the slow start of January where it felt like the entire country and industry was on holiday, things have really ramped up here at Film Bay of Plenty. In February we have seen commercials coming to town to shoot, have helped get additional crew for a Netflix show that came through the region and have been servicing enquires. We are looking forward to hosting producers and writers who have international co-productions in development, set in the region over the next few months and things are looking positive to have at least one drama series shooting in the region in the second half of the year.
We are also stoked that Tauranga based producer Tracy Hampton has been selected for the Line Producer Training Course "Share the Knowledge". We look to her sharing the knowledge and connections that she has gained with the wider industry.
There are some awesome events coming up over the next month with Documentary Directing and Producing Workshops and some fantastic screenings.
Stay involved by following our Instagram and Facebook pages and sign up to our online directory.

WELL DONE TAIKA WAITITI ON WINNING AN OSCAR!!
We are so proud of Taika Waititi who has become the first indigenous New Zealander to win an Oscar and who else grew up in the Eastern Bay of Plenty.
The 44-year-old Māori filmmaker took home the award for best-adapted screenplay at the 92nd Academy Awards for his Nazi satire "Jojo Rabbit."
"I dedicate this to all the indigenous kids in the world who want to do art and dance and write stories, we are the original storytellers and we can make it here, as well," he said.
Jojo Rabbit was nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture.
