January News from the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association

Hello neighbors,

Days are getting longer and the plants are starting pop up.  Come and hear what's popping up in our area at our neighborhood Brazilian Café, Favela!

At the upcoming, Feb. 10th, general meeting of the Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association we will be hearing from OR-3 Congressional candidate Albert Lee, Elizabeth Federici presents on the upcoming US
Census
and your way to help participate, as well as Neighbors for Clean Air's Executive director, Mary Paveto.

Your all-volunteer board of the FPNA continues to work on improvements to the walking trail at Firland Parkway, partnering with the Portland Parks & Recreation Department to redevelop Laurelwood Park, providing more community dinners to our new neighbors in the local shelters, and so many more community building activities. We are constantly looking for fresh ideas and volunteers to make our community even more vibrant. Come and add YOUR skillset to one of the many upcoming opportunities we have to get together and help build a community we all are proud share?

The Foster-Powell Neighborhood Association meets the 2nd Monday of the month. Meeting information and an agenda are below.

Hope to see you there,

Ensuring the safety of our communities is paramount. Yet public vitriol is skyrocketing, tensions flare at a moment’s notice and Oregon is consistently ranked in the top five states of per capita hate incidents. Participants will learn how to identify, understand and overcome the inhibitions that prevent them from supporting targets of hate. They will learn and use tactics for interrupting verbal hate; while centering and empowering the target. They will understand the risks involved in intervention and how to de-escalate a situation.
