Waarde leden,

Na de enorm drukke decembermaand kwam daar de maand januari met de gepaste rust, maar ook met een paar geslaagde evenementen. Een maand die meer dan geroepen kwam na de drukke decembermaand en de aankomende drukke periode in verband met de Dies Natalis van onze vereniging.

Toch verdienen een paar initiatieven extra aandacht door ze te benoemen in deze nieuwsbrief en ze even uit te lichten.

Allereerst is het gepast om de Departementsreis naar Weimar een enorm succes te noemen. Een groep van ongeveer 40 UHSK'ers nam de uitdaging aan om samen met docenten Jeroen Koch en Ido de Haan af te reizen naar Weimar en daar een blik te werpen op de prachtige geschiedenis die Weimar rijk is. De klassieke periode werd besproken, de kunstvorm Bauhaus en het zwarte verleden dat Weimar bij zich draagt na de Nazi-periode in de Tweede Wereldoorlog. Namens alle deelnemers wil ik dan ook de organisatoren voor de reis bedanken en het docentenduo die deze reis tot een succes hebben gemaakt.

Een gebruikelijk hoogtepunt in de UHSK-agenda van januari is ook de Algemene Ledenvergadering die in de laatste jaren steevast in januari wordt georganiseerd. De Algemene Ledenvergadering is enorm goed bezocht! Iets wat wij namens het bestuur enorm waarderen. Alle ter stemming gebrachte punten zijn ingestemd. Hulde aan het jaarverslag van het 93ste, het financieel jaarverslag van het 93ste, de wijziging van het vermogensplan, de nieuwe wijziging aan het Huishoudelijk Reglement, de nieuw in leven geroepen Gedragscode en de nieuwe Sollicitatiecommissie!

Op 30 januari organiseerde de HistoriCie een Historische Bierproeverij in Leiden! Hoewel het nog kortgeleden is dat dit evenement plaatsvond was het een enorm te prijzen evenement! Onder het genot van vijf speciaalbiertjes werd ons de historie omtrent bier en de stad Leiden verteld, een grappig combinatie!

Afsluitend vond ook op 31 januari de Holocaust Memorial Day plaats. 75 jaar na de bevrijding van Auschwitz is het nog steeds enorm belangrijk om stil te staan bij dit verschrikkelijk stukje geschiedenis. Mijn dank gaat uit naar de commissie die enorm hun best heeft gedaan om deze dag te organiseren. Met verschillende sprekers was de dag enorm informatief en aangrijpend. Ook was er dit jaar veel aandacht vanuit leden voor dit evenement. Het is altijd iets moois om zoveel leden te zijn bij dit soort belangrijke activiteiten die de UHSK maakt tot wat zij is. 

Ook in februari wordt er weer veel georganiseerd vanuit het bestuur en haar commissies! Een paar van deze activiteiten zal ik uitlichten in deze nieuwsbrief.

Honourable members,

After the extremely busy December month, the month of January was there with the appropriate rest and a few hugely successful highlights as far as the UHSK is concerned. A month that came more than called after the busy December month and the upcoming busy period because of the dies natalis of our association.

Nevertheless, a few initiatives deserve extra attention by mentioning them in this newsletter and explaining them.

First of all, it is appropriate to call the Departement trip to Weimar a huge success. A group of about 40 UHSK'ers took up the challenge to travel to Weimar together with teachers Jeroen Koch and Ido de Haan and to take a look at the beautiful history of Weimar. The classical period was discussed, the art form Bauhaus and the dark past that Weimar carries with it after the Nazi period in the Second World War. On behalf of all participants I would like to thank the organizers for the trip and the duo of teachers who made this trip to a success.

A common highlight in the UHSK agenda in January is also the General Assembly, which has invariably been held in January in recent years. The General Assembly was very well attended! Something we greatly appreciate on behalf of the board. All points put to the vote have been approved. Homage to the annual report of the 93rd, the financial annual report of the 93rd, the amendment of the asset plan, the new amendment of the Internal Regulations, the newly created Code of Conduct and the new Sollicitatiecommissie!

On the 30th of January the HistoriCie organised a Historical Beer Tasting in Leiden! Although it was only recently that this event took place, it was a highly praiseworthy initiative! While enjoying five special beers we were told by the historians about beer and the city of Leiden, a funny combination!

The Holocaust Memorial Day also took place on 31 January. 75 years after the liberation of Auschwitz, it is still very important to remember this terrible piece of history. I would like to thank the committee that did their best to organize this day. With several speakers the day was enormously informative and moving. Also this year there was a lot of attention from members for this initiative, it is always something nice to be so many members in this kind of important activities that makes the UHSK what it is. 

In February a lot is organized from the board and its committees! I will highlight a few of these activities in this newsletter.
