Vision 2020: #LeadershipRedefined

What an incredible time to work side by side our national and regional leaders in the warm town of the Big Easy! From January 16-19, 2020 we brainstormed and shared our thoughts on NaFFAA’s Vision, Mission, Goals and Strategies to better serve the Filipino American community. Led by our National Chair and President Brendan Flores, our exchange lit the fire in everyone to do what’s right at the right time. Looking forward to implementing NaFFAA's Vision 2020: Leadership Redefined.

From Great Lakes Region (3 East): Charles Castro, former Region Executive Director, engineer and military officer, passes away

"It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of Charles "Chuck" Castro, the former Executive Director of NaFFAA Region 3 when Ed Navarra served as Region 3 Chair," reports Armin Sayson, Region Chair of NaFFAA Great Lakes Region.

"Chuck, like Ed, was one of my mentors who encouraged me to take on leadership roles within our local Philippine-American Society of Greater Dayton organization and NaFFAA.  Chuck brought me with him to attend my very first NaFFAA Empowerment Conference in Michigan.  He is the reason I became involved with NaFFAA."

Castro — who was originally from Cagayan, Philippines — served in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) as Company Commander of the First Engineer Combat Battalion at Fort Magsaysay in the early 60s; trained with the elite Philippine Army Special Forces (Paratrooper); Philippine Civic Action Group, Vietnam (PhilCAG V); Philippine Air Force Transport Pilot; Test Pilot; Presidential Pilot; and Combat Pilot (C-47 Gunship). He saw combat operations in Central Luzon against communist insurgents in the late 60s and in Mindanao against separatist insurgents in the 70s. In the United States, he served with distinction with the 928th Tactical Airlift Group Air Force Reserve (C-130 Aircraft), and the Illinois Air National Guard (KC-135 Air Refueling Tanker) as an aircrew member. NaFFAA National extends our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones left behind.

Applicants who can commit at least 15 hours a week will be prioritized. In-person interns working in NaFFAA’s national office in Washington, DC will receive a small stipend. Remote internships are unpaid.

NaFFAA Intern Testimonial:

“After interning with NaFFAA, I finally feel like an active, productive, and proud member of the Filipino American community. I have met and worked with the most impressive Filipino American professionals, spanning several generations. Through the professional work environment, I not only gained new skills, but enhanced what I already had. These new experiences have surely impacted my professional career, but it was the mentors I found and relationships I fostered that will last me a lifetime.”

BE COUNTED THIS 2020!
The 2020 Census is critical for more than 22 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). We all need to participate in the Census if we want good jobs, education, and healthcare for our communities. The Census determines where funding goes for more than $800 billion dollars on hospitals, roads, and public transportation, as well as our representation in Congress. As the fastest-growing population, AAPIs must ensure our communities are accurately counted in the Census next year. We need your help to get your aunties, uncles, parents, grandparents, and friends counted!

BE INCLUDED. BE INSPIRED. BE INVOLVED.
Since 1997, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) has been promoting the welfare and well-being of the four million Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the United States. As a non-partisan and non-profit organization, NaFFAA is the largest national affiliation of Filipino American institutions, umbrella organizations, and individuals. Its member regions cover the continental United States, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Pacific Islands.
