Lose that Weight!

by Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

How are your New Years' resolutions going?

This past January I watched my son trying to lose weight. But not by going to the gym.

Many people start gym memberships in January and usually by the end of February have either canceled that membership or continue to pay thinking they will start going there soon.

My son didn’t need to lose that kind of weight. He is a weight lifter and has been a licensed personal trainer. The weight he was most worried about was how much his suitcase weighed...

Three Cheers for Three New Team Members

In our education survey, parents expressed a desire for a higher level of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education. We are pleased to introduce experienced educator Dave Morgan as our new director of STEAM education (STEM topics plus the arts) for international and domestic students!
Morgan is already working with Lewis County Adventist School on a series of STEAM learning days.

Ernesto Hernandez from Tulsa, Oklahoma, is joining our team as a media production associate to help expand the services and capabilities of the Communication department. His responsibilities include videography, photography, social media, and audio-visual ministry for conference events.

Ernesto’s wife, Delia Sanchez, (pronounced Dell-ya) is also joining our conference team as executive administrative assistant for the President’s Office.

Your Community Needs You!

There's a shift in needs after a disaster happens. It used to be that Adventists were the warehousing experts to manage donated goods. This still happens in some regions of the country.

Now, we have an opportunity to help in a new and much needed way as emotional and spiritual providers. You could also call this disaster response chaplains.

It's interesting who has RSVP'd so far: individuals who live and work in suburban and rural areas. Our urban environment is not represented. We need all areas represented!

Here's your opportunity to be certified to help when a disaster happens: a two-day training class is happening President's Day weekend (Feb. 16-17) in Federal Way. It's only $60 thanks to sponsors.

Please consider how you can help your neighbors and community in an intensely needed way during times of disaster (natural and man-made).

Help, at the Right Time

A physician and his wife felt impressed by the Holy Spirit to purchase a grocery gift card to help a fellow church member little knowing that it would sit in the church mailbox for a while.

Several weeks later, the member greeted the couple: "It came just at the right time. Thank you.” Tears welled up in the couple's eyes. God had used them to help another person in need just at the right time.

This Sabbath's offering is for local church budget. We have worthy causes that minister to our local communities “just at the right time” for those who need it the most. Let us be generous with our contributions and with our actions to live out Matthew 25:35.
