Kia ora koutou Enviroschools whanau

We hope that you've had a great holiday and are enjoying this warmer weather...finally!

We've updated the way that you will receive information from us, your inbox will be sent the following:
  1. 'Key Dates and Information' - an email at the beginning of each term.
  2. 'Celebrating and Sharing' - newsletters x 3 per year - we'll be collecting examples of your Enviroschools mahi and would love any stories sent through by staff and kids.
These updates and e-newsletters only go to those who have subscribed to the Enviroschools newsletter list, so please encourage your staff to do so.

In this email you'll find a lovely selection of offerings to complement your Enviroschools journey. Your facilitator will be in contact to book in any additional support at your school.

See you at school or at a meeting/workshop soon!

Warmest wishes,
Zoe and Sarah

Save the Date - Term 1

  • Sustainable Coastlines, 'Citizen Scientist Training Workshop', Wednesday 19 February, WestREAP Hokitika, 12 - 4pm, RSVP by 10 February
This was postponed due to terrible weather and now falls on a weekday. There is release available for one teacher per school. These workshops are a great fit with the work many of you are doing in relation to long-term projects, waste minimisation, native-nurseries, and community outreach. Email Zoe to reserve your spot.
  • 'Nature as Our Classroom' Cluster Meeting Tuesday 10 March, Paroa School hall, 3:45 - 5:15pm, RSVP by 28 February
This experiential meeting, co-facilitated by Lauren Kelley (DOC) and Zoe will arm teachers with practical skills for learning in the environment, and share ways to integrate with your Enviroschools Journey and Vision. There will be great kai and good company. Email Zoe to book in staff and advise of dietary requirements
  • Boosting Native Nurseries in Schools Project, Stage 1 - Term 1
Our wonderful Enviroschools facilitator Sarah Harvey will be in contact with all Enviroschools this term (plus Paroa!) who have a native nursery. We need each school to complete a simple survey, and then to meet with Sarah to identify the current situation. This will enable us to create a support package to get your nurseries and action projects thriving! Please email Zoe if you have any questions
  • Seaweek 2020, 'Connecting with Our Seas', 29 Feb - 8 March
Hosted by the NZ Association for Environmental Education, Seaweek focuses on learning about the ocean because it is so important to all our lives, no matter how far you are from it! A fabulous opportunity to connect in and celebrate with the work many of you are involved with, including: The West Coast Penguin Trust, Sustainable Coastlines, Conservation Volunteers New Zealand, and Department of Conservation
  • Earth Hour Schools Day, Friday 27 March
Sign up to switch off and join millions around the world raising their voices for nature. You’ll also have the opportunity to take the next step by urging our leaders to protect more of our planet, hosting or attending an Earth Hour event, and pledging to make simple lifestyle changes. Find out more here
  • All Good Bananas, 'Back to School' campaign
The pack is designed for primary school children as a resource to complement lessons on Fairtrade. Where do bananas come from, and how do the decisions we make in New Zealand affect the lives of growers on the other side of the world? View the resource here
