This year has gotten off to a great start! The CAEP Board of Directors met and approved several changes to our Accreditation, Appeals and Governance Policies as well as to our Bylaws. A summary of those changes is included below.

New ! Consolidated Accreditation Handbook

CAEP Consolidated Handbook Now Available
The CAEP Consolidated Handbook combines the guidance to implement the 2013 Standards for initial preparation and their companion 2016 Standards for advanced preparation. The Consolidate Handbook brings together the CAEP Handbook: Guidance on Self-Study Reports for Accreditation at the Advanced-Level 2017 and the CAEP Handbook: Initial-Level Programs 2018.
A brief Highlights of the Consolidated Handbook walks you through the features. The Consolidated Handbook will be in effect Spring 2021 and beyond.

CAEP Bylaws and Policy Changes

On December 5, 2019, the CAEP Board of Directors approved changes to Accreditation Policy, Appeals Policy, Bylaws, and Governance Policy. All changes will take effect on January 1, 2020.
The Board made several changes to Bylaws and Governance Policy regarding CAEP’s operations which may have an impact on EPPs and CAEP’s partners:

  • Expanded Governance Policy 2.03 Scope of CAEP Accreditation to authorize CAEP to make preaccreditation decisions and approved a motion allowing CAEP to begin a preaccreditation pilot involving not more than three (3) EPPs;  and
  • In order to meet federal requirements for recognition, additional policy amendments were adopted to expand the Board’s expectations for Accreditation Policy and clarify the nomination/selection processes used for members of CAEP’s decision-making bodies.
There was only one change made to Accreditation Policy:
  • Policy 2.05 Composition of the Accreditation Council was amended to specify that the failure of a councilor to participate two (2) consecutive regular Accreditation Council meetings shall be grounds for removal with cause.  Previously, the failure to participate in any two consecutive meetings – regular or special – was grounds for removal with cause.
Amendments made to Appeals Policy include:
  • Eliminated the Appeals Council and designate any Ad Hoc Appeal Panel as a decision-making body;
  • Established qualifications for Ad Hoc Appeal Panel members;
  • Incorporated conflict of interest and confidentiality policies from Accreditation Policy;
  • Provided for appeals from adverse action decisions of the Accreditation Council for both preaccreditation and accreditation decisions; and
  • To align with the federal rule posted on November 1, 2019, eliminated the option of an Ad Hoc Appeal Panel decision to Reverse an accreditation decision.

The updated CAEP Accreditation Policy, Appeals Policy, Bylaws, and Governance Policy are posted on our website for your full review

3.2 Mixed Tests Calculator: CAEP has developed a new resource to assist EPP'sComponent 3.2 – Cohorts with Mixed Tests Calculator. The Calculator is a tool that implements the procedures outlined in the document A CAEP RESOURCE for EPPs on STANDARD 3, COMPONENT 3.2: Cohorts with Multiple Tests. The 3.2 Calculator is designed for educator preparation providers with at least one cohort of candidates meeting two conditions—“multiple tests” and “mixed results”. Not all EPP's will need to use the CAEP 3.2 Calculator.

A webinar explaining which EPPs may need to use the test, what data is needed and how to use the calculator has also been developed. You may access the Primer on Using the Mixed Tests Calculator on the CAEP Standard 3 website.
