Science Policy Scholar Conference Travel Awards Available
The Office of Research on Women's Health at NIH is offering Science Policy Scholar Travel Awards to junior investigators whose work focuses on women's health or sex and gender differences. The awards, up to $3,000 each, will be available to support travel to the annual meeting of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences (OSSD) on May 4–7, 2020, in Marina del Rey, CA. Interested applicants should submit an abstract on a policy-related matter connected to women’s health or sex and gender differences for consideration as a poster, oral session, or symposium at the OSSD meeting.  Click here for more details.

Call for Disability Employment Pilot Projects
The Kessler Foundation invites applications for its Signature Employment Grants program that offers up to $250,000/year for up to two years in support of pilot initiatives or demonstration projects that develop models to increase employment for individuals with disabilities. The foundation has a special interest in projects that address the intersection of race, class, gender, disability, and poverty. Click here for details.

Submit Your Idea for the NAM Healthy Longevity Catalyst Award!
The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) is accepting applications for its Healthy Longevity Catalyst Awards. Individuals and teams are invited to submit 2-page applications detailing bold, innovative, and potentially transformative ideas to improve the mental, physical, and social well-being of people as they age. The competition is open to innovators from all backgrounds, and ideas may focus on any stage of life, as long as they ultimately promote health as people age. Click here details.

NIA Request for Proposals for Stress-Related Projects
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Stress Measurement Network at UCSF, in collaboration with Gateway to Global Aging Data, has completed the harmonization of psychosocial stress variables across nine longitudinal studies on aging from around the world. With this completion, there is an opportunity for early stage investigators to develop projects with these datasets and receive mentorship from senior faculty and a $2,500 honorarium. Calls for Research related to Gifted Children or LGBT Topics
The American Psychological Foundation has two open calls for proposals:
  • Gifted Children/Youth Research: Researchers are invited to submit proposals for Esther Katz Rosen Fund Grants, which range from $1,000 and $50,000, and will be awarded in support of research, pilot projects, and research-based programs related to the psychological understanding of gifted children and youth.   • LGBT Research: Researchers are invited to submit applications for the Wayne F. Placek Grant program, which will fund grants up to $10,000 in support of empirical research in any field of the behavioral or social sciences on any topic related to lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) issues.  Click here for details.

Applications Invited for Scholarly European Art Projects
The Samuel H. Kress Foundation is accepting proposals for scholarly projects that will enhance the appreciation and understanding of European art and architecture. Grants will be awarded to projects that create and disseminate specialized knowledge, including archival projects, the development and dissemination of scholarly databases, documentation projects, museum exhibitions and publications, photographic campaigns, scholarly catalogs and publications, and technical and scientific studies. Call for Native American Research
The American Philosophical Society is inviting applications to its Phillips Fund for Native American Research program. Grants of up to $3,000 will be awarded in support of research in the areas of Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of Native Americans studies in the United States or Canada. Grants are intended to support travel, the cost of tape or film, and consultants' fees. Click here for details.

Spencer Foundation Accepting Applications
The Spencer Foundation is accepting applications for its Small Research Grants Program, which supports education research projects with budgets of $50,000 or less. This program aims to fund work that will contribute to the improvement of education and support scholarship that develops new foundational knowledge that may have a lasting impact on educational discourse. Historically, grants have supported research projects on a range of topics and disciplines and that have employed a wide range of research methods. Click here for more details.

Call for Proposals for Biodiversity Data, Information Services in Africa
The JRS Biodiversity Foundation has issued a RFP for multiyear projects of up to $250,000 focused on biodiversity data, knowledge, and information services related to freshwater biodiversity, pollinator biodiversity, and biodiversity informatics capacity development. Priority countries include Botswana, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, and Uganda. Click here for details.

Call for Proposals for 2020-21 ISCE Scholars Program
ISCE is accepting applications for its 2020-21 Scholars Program. This signature program provides faculty support for developing grant proposals in the social sciences, broadly defined, and consistent with ISCE’s four thematic areas and the University’s Transdisciplinary Communities. Proposed projects are expected to address critical individual and social concerns impacting the lives of people and places locally, nationally, or across the globe.The Scholars Program supports faculty to undertake work in a new or existing area, with the expectation that proposals developed through the program lead to external funding. CLAHS-ISCE to Offer NSF CAREER Sessions
The CLAHS and ISCE are co-sponsoring a series of sessions on National Science Foundation CAREER Awards geared for faculty whose research focuses on topics relevant to the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences directorate. The sessions will help faculty better understand application requirements, provide opportunities to learn from past recipients and receive feedback on drafts as well as assistance with the nuts and bolts of the application process. An initial meeting will be held on Monday, February 10th from 8:45-9:45 a.m. in the ISCE Conference Room located at 230 Grove Lane. For planning purposes, contact Yancey Crawford if you plan to attend.
NSF Head of SBE Directorate to Present on February 13th
Dr. Arthur Lupia, Head of the Social, Behavioral and Economic Sciences Directorate, and Assistant Director at the National Science Foundation, will present The Value of Science in a Polarized Age, on Thursday, February 13th at 1:00 p.m., in person in Arlington in the East/West Falls Church Room on 900 N. Glebe Rd., and via a simultaneous broadcast to Blacksburg, location TBA. Remote access through Zoom will also be available.

Forum: Iran and the U.S. in the Age of Trump
All are invited to attend a forum, sponsored by the Middle East Working Group, on U.S.-Iran relations on Wednesday, Feburary 5th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. in the New Classroom Building, Room 160. Lecture: Why the U.S. Still Does Not Have a Woman President
The CLAHS presents a guest lecture given by Farida Jalalzai, Professor and Hannah Atkins Endowed Chair of the Department of Political Science at Oklahoma State University, entitled “Why the U.S. Still Does Not Have a Woman President: Lessons from Around the Globe.”  This lecture will take place on Friday, February 7th, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Newman Library Multipurpose Room. Quantitative Methods Institute Offered
The Consortium for Statistical Development and Consultation in Social Intervention Research is sponsoring an Institute on Quantitative Methods for Social and Health Interventions from May 11-15, 2020 at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
